wrong paint code?

Recommended Posts

So interesting moment this week. Went to order a cap for my truck and the dealer wanted to get the code from my truck... Its Onyx Black... and the code on the truck is 800J which states it is White Diamond. Lucky I went in person to order instead of just giving the code over the phone.

Anyone else have the wrong code?

I had the exact thing happen. I wonder if it was re-painted. Where you able to find out why?

I asked the dealer and they didn't have a reason for it. Just something they told me to be be aware of... If I wouldn't have ordered my cap in person, I would have had to pay for a repaint on the cap...

I've done paint work for 15 years now and it's not unheard of for a car to have a incorrect paint code on the factory data sticker regardless of brand but I've seen it more on GM vehicles for some reason.

I know this is an old post, but I have a 2015 Highcountry with the same issue black in color with the 800J paint code. I actually need to know the color. Is it just the "Onyx black" that this happened to? I am relatively sure my truck is onyx. Is there another way to figure out the paint code?

Coding is issued before the production starts......vehicle is scheduled for tri coat pearl or white application a multistep process like the tint coat colors, GM's reason to charge another $400 - $1000 for paint.

Tri coat machinery screws up so the paint process defaults to the ever popular Henry Ford black......would be whatever GM black is used on that model year. Correct color will be listed on the top of the Maroney sticker.

What/where is the "Maroney sticker"?

The Monroney sticker or window sticker is a label required in the United States to be displayed in all new automobiles and includes the listing of certain official information about the car. The window sticker was named after Almer Stillwell "Mike" Monroney, United States Senator from Oklahoma.

I know someone who wanted a yellow suburban but the dealer would/could not order that color because customer was not a fleet account. So he ordered white and had it repainted yellow.   We had trucks, mostly Chevys that in the order process were ordered in White (screw up). Our dept (state dot) required all vehicles working in traffic to be orange. So 300 Chevy trucks had to be repainted orange before they could be assigned, pu's and suburbans.  One was my k2500 'burban and they did a very good job, could not find white anywhere and no overspray.  It delayed getting the new truck about 6-months.
