Changing ATF

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am new on this site and I have a tranny question. I have 15000 mostly city miles on my '02 Yukon with a 4.8 liter. Do I need to change my ATF at this time and if so do I need to drop the pan and change the filter or can I just drain the ATF by removing the bolt on the pan and replace with new fluid.

Thanks

Hmmm? I plan on changing mine at 30,000 miles and that will be a mix of highway, city, and towing. I would definately change the filter also when you change the fluid. Alot of people recommend a complete flush but if you change the fluid and filter regularly you should be OK not doing the flush but once ever 100,000 or so, but thats just my opinion. I would say you'll get a few more!

Depending on how hard you are on it in city traffic, you shouldn't need to do anything until somewhere in the 30-50k area.

Once again, that's dependant on how hard you are on it.  If you drive like a Chicago cab driver, then you may want to do a full change now.  Otherwise I'd at least wait until 30k.

I would wait till at least 30k and then just pull the pan and change the filter, clean up the pan and fill it back up. That will be more than enough.

I agree with SilveradoWV.  Unless you do a ton of towing or hauling changing out the fluid and fliter every 30k will be more than enough. That keeps the fluid fresh.  You could go longer but why when fluid is so reasonable in price and that little PM helps keep things right and last longer.  What is that saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"  :thumb:
