6.0L timing

Recommended Posts

Speedy, all that is, is an idle re-learn.  Any basic bolt-on mods could increase your timing, however, these PCM controlled systems will constantly adjust no matter what you do.

At idle, you'll note they are at 0* BTDC.  Compared to the old days where 4, 6, 8, 10, and sometimes even 12 degrees of advance were dialed in from the start in order to stay on top of RPM's and then the vacuum advance took care of load and speed advance.

That is not the case nowadays.  With instant, realtime feedback from all the sensors, the PCM can adjust timing in milliseconds.  You'll also notice that a majority of these LS1 derived motors tend to have a "Sweet Spot" for timing at WOT usually in the 24 - 28 degree mark, depending on what year.  Some will have more, some will have less, but that seems to be a "hot" range for them.

Anything you do to increase timing will be learned by the PCM and adjusted for anyway, so I wouldn't bother trying to add any.

ran auto tap yesterday and got a best of 11.5 at wot then pulled the maf screen and it has been at 13.5 since then.  I am going to get ls1 edit but probably not for a few weeks

That seems a little low for an N/A engine.

Did you log it so you can see what happens over time?  Or were you watching it while you were driving?  If it was the later and you watched it when you were letting off, or it was shifting gears (torque management), I could see it scaled back.  But to me, that's just low.

watched it as I drove.  cruising, it was at 48* and when I would punch it, it would drop right to 9.5 and climb to 11.5.  pulled the screen and it would jump to 10 and climb to 13.5
