Kooks Headers Installed

Recommended Posts

kooks fit excellent. i don't really like the people at ARH.....I have had their headers and they are of comparable quality to kooks (both are top of the line) but won't give ARH anymore business. plus i think kooks are a few hundred bucks cheaper so there is that, too.

you aren't giving up anything going with kooks. i don't consider them a budget brand like pacesetter or stuff like that.

Here is a vid of the startup with stock catback

here is an pull from in the cab with stock catback. disregard the Engine Power Reduced notification that pops up, lol.

I am surprised at how quiet it is. Im anxious to see how it sounds with the magnaflow exhaust. I think i will be going with that exact setup on my 5.3. Are you getting the power reduction message because you havent tuned for the headers yet?

The camera phone doesnt sound any different but it sounds deeper but still quiet. I am pleased.

I don't know why that message popped up but never before or after. I adjusted a couple things to see if it's just flowing more air than it expects now.

The tip is ridiculous so I chopped it off.

I had a set of Pacesetter LT's on my 4th gen while cheap and they made good power (26+ rwhp sae) the y-pipe fit was poor and a bad design. My 4th gen was also a garage queen (28K mile '94 B4C AutoX/open track car) and they had already rusted after two years. I'm actually more familiar with Kooks than ARH as I remember them from my f-body days.

Ryan, I checked with Stainless Works and they don't have anything for 2014's yet.

I'm going to buy a set of longtubes with cats this fall and get the truck retuned. I may go 1-7/8" in case I upgrade to a supercharger in the future. Attached are some pics I found of Kooks on a 5.3.

2015 6.2L 1500

No pics or vids or anything yet but with the stock catback I am really surprised and happy about how QUIET it is. It sounds like stock, honestly. Usually long tubes wake the neighbors. I installed the Kooks Y-pipe with high flow cats.

So now I am debating a catback, its not a no brainer for me to get one. I do not want a loud exhaust at all on my truck, I was worried I would have to install something quieter than stock.

Stock catback must be REALLY restrictive or really well designed....usually catbacks are good for 5 HP. If it is this quiet with long tubes.....could it be worth more????

Higgs... Same boat. Just picked up kooks/off-road Y. I'm gonna mate to stock exhaust because I really like the way yours sounded but I'm curious if your magnaflow is causing migraines and if you noticed any change in tune after new catback that would show any measurable increase in airflow?

The Magnaflow sounds so good. It doesn't represent on the video, it is super quiet at low throttle positions but sounds healthy, almost big blockish when you roll in a little bit.

I can't say enough how happy I am with this set up. Kooks LT, catted Y, Magnaflow catback. It's not too loud in any way.

My fuel trims actually did not require changes to MAF or VE, except at WOT, I did adjust the MAF a bit.

I'm wondering about access to spark plugs, proximity (heat) to other components, wiring, etc . Can you share your opinions and pix of your experience?

Better access to spark plugs

The only thing close to the headers is the plug wires but they don't touch.

On my car I run stock plug wires with heat sleeves and on the truck I have taylor wires without heat sleeves.

The Taylor wires can be arranged so that they have lots of clearance. I don't think you will have problems with either.

I could put sleeves on the truck but it doesn't seem necessary so I haven't bothered.

Good question, did you coat, shield or wrap anything or wish u had? Any noticeable underwood temp changes? Jet-Hot is about an hour away but I keep hearing that it's not necessary on Kooks, even from Nick at Kooks.

Nope, I would do it like this again.

Love the wires, I have been searching for a set and those look like they will work better on the passenger side front two cylinders. Got info handy?
