Hot rod tested an LQ9 fresh out of the GM crate and it showed GM under rated it some, On a Chassis Dyno which the numbers are subjective, mine put down 325 at the wheel. No idea on torque

There will be an extra plug on the trans if it is a 70. Also .004 on the heads will not bump. You are pretty good up until .010 then it starts raising. I would compensate with a slightly thicker gasket to make tuning easier

Actually perfect squish is .030 Cometic HG. and mil heads accordingly. Thats proper way to raise compression

Not bad at all! I've been reading these LQ9 iron blocks will basically handle as much hp as you can get out of them N/A. But you have to be careful with forced induction.

Ive seen a guy run 25 PSI on a stock LQ9. They will handle Nitrous as well

Jesus Christ! I'm still fresh in my LQ9 research but it seems like the best bang for my buck unless I can find a cheap L92 block.

Conner! Remember me? Haven't been on FB in a long while. Anyways, how did your gear change out go? 456 wasn't it? Lol, I'm trying to figure out photo bucket and I'll post pics myself. Awesome build thread man. I'm jelly of your truck even if it isn't marine blue. Update us on here bro

Been a while since I've been on here so I figured I'd update. Did a bunch of work the truck last summer.

I wasn't happy with the little ls6 cam so I decided on a BTR stage 3 truck cam. 218/224. The wife and I went to Nashville two summers back for vacation and I ended up meeting John Bewley from LJMS on a Saturday morning in Bowling Green KY for the cam. Super good guy to deal with BTW!

Bowling Green is pretty awesome. If you get a chance check out the vette museum and assembly plant.

Added a set of speed engineering stainless long tubes and catless y-pipe. *lift kit guys, the y-pipe doesn't clear the front driveshaft without some hammer therapy.*

Added a trucool 40k trans cooler to deal with the added heat from the new FTI 2600 stall converter. Decided not to go with the thermal bypass as the truck gets stored for the winter.

I was having a lock up issue with the converter. Alan from performabuilt was very quick to send out a new TCC lock up solenoid under warranty.

Nice engine build!

Why didn't you guys clean the engine bay and at least replace some old accessories while you're in there? i.e the water pump, maybe oil pump, etc

Sent from my SM-G360V using Tapatalk

I'm too lazy to clean all that stuff. Oil pump was changed when I built the engine. Water pump and stuff like that will all be replaced when they go bad. Its by no means a show truck. Just a weekend toy.

Last August we had plans to tow the camper to Myrtle Beach for two weeks. We made it about three hours to the Canada US border when the rear diff decided to let go. I guess the added stress on the gears got so hot it burnt out the ring and pinion. Left the camper at the border and milked the truck back home to get a backup truck. Ended up taking my uncles hemi down for the trip. I HATED every second of that drive. It was so uncomfortable, so bad on fuel, but it did get us there and home and had working AC so I can't complain too much.

Myrtle Beach was a good time though.

I had been planning to re-gear the truck anyways so it wasn't that big of deal. just kinda sucked taking a hemi! Decided on a front and rear set of motive 4.88s. Got the gears, install kits, and an eaton trutrac for the rear all through Ron's machining service. Another great guy to deal with.

Also added Bilstein 5100 shocks on all four corners. Huge improvement there. Love those things.
