Reversed Polarity While Jumping Battery

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

This electrician reversed the polarity on the jumper cables (for the second time), and have cause some minor problems. The #18 fuse in the I/P Fuse Block popped, and continues to do so, indicating a short. The stereo also has no power; i haven't checked to see if i have damaged the stereo yet, and may have two malfunctions from my stupidness. Other than that, the truck is still operating normally. What circuits and components should I check?

Stereos have their own fuse on the unit itself and is likely blown. Where it is depends from unit to unit. Stock stereos could have it in the back but many have them soldered to the circuit board inside the unit.

As for #18, what is it running? To track these down, I purposely make it fail and track the smoke from melting insulation. This has to be done with caution. Don't let it run too long if you're not able to see anything. But often times, jumping the fuse and running the accessory in question lets your nose and eyes find the problem. If you do this, PLEASE be careful. It's completely bypassing a fire safety component and shouldn't be done unless you're confident you won't burn anything. Haha
