Question....

Recommended Posts

Don't think I would ever buy a soft cover agian. They truly stink in the cold weather around here in New England. I have one for my S10 and have to put my cap on or I will never get into the bed in the winter. Thanks for the idea but I want a solid folding cover....

Have you looked at an Access?

I live in Minnesota (we invented cold weather and deep snow), and have had them on my last 3 trucks.  One of them is a '93 S-10 that my son has, and it's still in great shape.

I'll have to agree with the Access cover nomination if you will still consider a soft type.  I too live in MN and it has worked great since I put it on about four years ago.  Cold, snow, ice, whatever, doesn't bother it.  I like the versatility and ease of use and installation.  It has tension adjustments to achieve the tautness you desire. I like mine tight.   :jester:

Only one bad thing.  My velcro adhesive on the attachment rails dried up and now the velcro is peeling off.  The warranty came through and I picked up a new velcro kit to fix the problem.  Now just waiting for a warm day to do it.

i have th gm snapless soft rollup cover and it works great on all weather.  I have used it in 0 degree up to 100 degree.  When it is colder it is a little harder to use (mainly cause your hands are so cold everything hurts)

only $270 and well worth it

I have looked at them a little and didn't think they would work to good were I live. Were I am at we get a lot of ice and snow mixed. In fact it is snowing right now... April 4th and its snowing... The velcro does that work ok when it gets ice and snow all over it. Thank you for the sugestion. I am looking at all the options...

I also live in Northern New England and went thru the same thing trying to decide on a cover . . . . I wanted a toolbox in addition to the cover. I was close to getting the Access, but decided to go with the Extang Cargomax . . . . . included a toolbox with a fully tilting tonneau that attached to the box. It tilts open for easy access, it can easily be fully removed, or it can be unsnapped & rolled up (with the frame still on). If it is too cold to snap back on, I'd just take the whole thing off, bring it inside to warm up, snap it up & put it back on the truck.

I use the tilt feature the most & it just seemed easier to access the bed by releasing 2 levers & lifting up rather than peeling back the velcro each time. Works well so far . . .  the toolbox is kinda small, but all in all, I think I made the right choice !!!

Yes.  Velcro is pretty durable stuff.  If you happen to leave the cover rolled up and the velcro exposed to snow/ice, usually just a brush of the hand and the ice will fall out.  THe hook/loop configuration doesn't hold the ice that well and it breaks up and falls out pretty good.

As long as your truck isn't a sheet of ice (which I doubt any cover would work in those conditions) the velcro on the Access cover works great.  I would never consider buttons or that ziplock type that Lund has in these climates.

Another thing that makes it better in my opinion is the allowance for a little slack or tightness as the temperature warms and cools.  More leeway with velcro than buttons where you have to be dead on to get it attached.
