a couple of decals, or a license plate bracket is nothing compared to the Chevy dealer we had in town. they used to put 2 2x3'' galvanized plates pop riveted to the front fenders, and one on the rear. with their name and address, phone number on it..so a couple decals an't s**t..

Funny story...my girlfriend recently told me to please put her new sticker on her plate (car is a one year old), I said no problem and as I was taking off the "dealer installed" license plate frame with their name in bright white so I could get the sticker on correctly I thought it would be a good idea to spray the frame flat black. The dealers name was still there but now just not "in your face" bright white. Wellllll, I never imagined the response from her how I ruined her vehicle and how she liked how the plate looked before... :noway:

I bet she would have never noticed if I had not pointed it out to her... :shakehead:

Gotta love when you think you're doing a good thing and it comes back to bite you... :nonod: ...and you're probably right too.

Not only do I tell them to leave their stuff off my truck. I also remove any form of factory badges from the vehicle. If it is a part like the front bowtie I either color match it or buy a chrome one to blend in. Not that I have a problem with Chevrolet. I just don't like the huge clash with the yellow/gold bowtie.

The first new car I ever bought was a TBSS in 2007. I told the dealer DO NOT install the front plate bracket has they have to drill 2 holes. I also wrote it out on the "we owe" slip. Guess what... they drilled the bumper just before I signed the papers. They had to do a dealer transfer to get the exact truck without the bumper being drilled for me to go through with the deal. They are damn lucky their sister store had one that was optioned the same.

I look at it like this. I spend thousands of dollars on a car to have it the way it was advertised. Anything that is done after I agree to buy it is unacceptable. Almost like buying a new house and after closing you have a sign stuck to your front door saying who built the house, or worse to big holes where they screwed the sign in!

It is also an easy way to steal your vehicle. If you know the owner's name, get the vin number from the front windshield, you can go and get a key made (even if you have to wait a few days) to just drive off with the vehicle. Maybe you can do this with any dealership but it would be easier where you got the vehicle and because they may ask you where you got the vehicle. I just got another key without showing any identification. The key was already programed without the vehicle present. Less public information available is very important in today world.

Let me stop you there... If a dealership cuts a key for someone that does not provide proof of ownership can be held liable for the theft of that vehicle. The chevy dealers around here won't even talk to you if you don't have the info in hand.

My Dad taught me "Locks only keep the honest people out." You have to do whatever you're able to, wherever you're able to do it, to protect yourself.

Maybe this one fell through the cracks. I ordered the key without showing any ID. Had the VIN number and the name (me) and address of the owner. Gave them my cell number. Went back a few days later and key was already programed and ready to go. I paid cash for the key. Person at counter didn't know me from Adam. Picked up the key before getting a call w/o my truck. That is all I can tell you.

Local BMW dealer takes it to an idiotic extreme. A relative called with a VIN asking if it needed any service or recalls. They said they wouldn't check unless you showed up with the vehicle!

its the same thing I ran into with my Sister's 2013 Ford Escape; both she and the vehicle are overseas in Europe; and to cut a key where she is is an EYE WATERING 200 Euros; and the way the Local Ford Dealer does it is that the Vehicle Owner HAS to Be Present at the Dealership and sign a release form proving ownership before Ford can authorize cutting the key. but because the Vehicle and the Owner were 4,548 miles away from the dealership; this was pretty much impossible to accomplish, and she had to pay out the rear end for a key in europe.

I would have left the dealer badge on the tailgate, except I was already pulling off the huge letter that went the full width of the back window, about 5 inches in height. I could see it in the rear-view mirror when I drove and it drove me nuts. So when taking it off, i pulled the badge off the tailgate as well.

Haven't touched the license plate frame yet. Need to find one I like to replace it and then I will.
