Dealership advertisement on your vehicle.

OK.

Off topic a tad.

I ordered my 2008 GMC Sierra with option - Decal Delete - and with that the selling salesman didn't dare put any other stickers on my new truck.

If they want to advertise on my vehicle, they can pay me. Either cash off the price of the vehicle, or throw in some goodies.

...and a plate holder up front is a no-sale for me.

I asked for no decals or whatever on the Jeep. Previously I just peeled them off. NH required front plates so up till now I didn't care if they put a frame up front. I just tossed it when I got home.

Holy hell people if you don't like the sticker THEN PEEL IT OFF! Why do people make a small thing so big, this thread is unreal.

This, this right here. All I can do is shake my head....

Why not really screw with them and put the Ford dealers sticker on your truck. That will really teach them a lesson.

I believe the vast majority of people really don't give a rat's backside whether there is a license plate frame with the dealership name on it. If I think about it, I'll sometimes remove them. I haven't thought about this 2014's license frame...til now. It's just fly scat in the pepper to me. I don't get worked up if someone touches my truck in someplace other than the door handle either. Now, if my 401K takes a 1/4 mil dive, I would get worked up.

Personally, I hate when a dealership places their decal or emblem on a vehicle. The last three vehicles I purchased I made them remove or not apply any dealer badging. Now my father on the other hand never cared on his trucks since he only owned them for a year. But as the majority of people have stated most people people could careless. Members of this forum I'm sure are a little different and more against them just because we are enthusiasts.

The way I see it is like most of you. I take off the sticker the second I get home, and the license plate frame goes away when registration for my tags arrive. It's not that I don't like dealers (well, it is), but I'm in the advertising business. If I don't get to advertise for free in their property, they don't get to advertise for free in mine either.

When I got my VW, I'm pretty sure vw provided a front mount plate holder that doesn't bolt to the front bumper but actually latches into the lower portion of the honey comb grill. Though here in the UK it's required for front plates being the plates are different colors, they vw dealership I took it into for service used damn zip ties to make sure the plate didn't come off..... I mean I can see it may fall off one day when I take a jump or two but damn if I want to take it off to clean out the grill and I/C and rad from bugs and stuff...

When I purchased my Camaro, it had dealer installed pin stripes. I didn't like them and so the dealership removed them for me and didn't put their logo on it either. I guess it depends on the person. Like stated at the beginning of this thread, most don't care or even know about the dealership logo.

I think if you are purchasing a vehicle and are nice about stating you do not want their info on your new vehicle that they would be more than willing to either not put it on or take it off it it is already on the vehicle.

  • 2 months later...

Funny story...my girlfriend recently told me to please put her new sticker on her plate (car is a one year old), I said no problem and as I was taking off the "dealer installed" license plate frame with their name in bright white so I could get the sticker on correctly I thought it would be a good idea to spray the frame flat black. The dealers name was still there but now just not "in your face" bright white. Wellllll, I never imagined the response from her how I ruined her vehicle and how she liked how the plate looked before... :noway:

I bet she would have never noticed if I had not pointed it out to her... :shakehead:

Just bought a new Traverse tonight. Dealer asked me if I wanted the plate trim ring or not. I thanked him for asking, then politely asked to leave it off.

I don't want them on the vehicles (and will normally take them off as soon as I get home) for two main reasons:

- I am not their rolling billboard for free. Dealers count on the vast majority of consumers leaving these things on and producing a small amount traffic to their lot and maybe a purchase.I wonder if any dealer actually generates enough profit per year to pay for all of the stickers and plate frames they install.

- Under no circumstances do I want to have anyone be able to identify where I'm from when out of town by any means other than the license plate showing my state. I don't leave mail on the seats face up, no identifying information of any kind on or in the car, and I think it's hilarious when the single mothers put those people stick figures on their cars along with the dealership name of where they got their vehicle from. Might just as well be advertising that they're flying solo in town X...

I just can't see why people like these dealer's stickers or I call them tramp stamps and allow dealers to put these stickers on their vehicles. Yes you can remove these stickers yourself but since you paid $xx,xxx money why should you. Dealers just slap them on automatically without the new owner's permission. People have to start speaking up to stop this practice.

Make the dealers remove them.

One time I had to pick up my truck late but I would not pick it up or pay the dealership anything until they removed their tramp stamp. There was no one there to remove it. I had to come back the next day but I made the dealership give me three "free" oil changes because I had to make two trips. Customers have a lot of power if the dealership wants to make the sale.

It is also an easy way to steal your vehicle. If you know the owner's name, get the vin number from the front windshield, you can go and get a key made (even if you have to wait a few days) to just drive off with the vehicle. Maybe you can do this with any dealership but it would be easier where you got the vehicle and because they may ask you where you got the vehicle. I just got another key without showing any identification. The key was already programed without the vehicle present. Less public information available is very important in today world.

My friend just got a handicap pass for his vehicle. He asked the MV Department if he should sign it and put his last four numbers (license) on the pass. There is a space for it. MV Department told him to leave it blank because the pass could be checked by officials by the number on it. Don't give more information than necessary to prevent ID theft etc..

Picked up the wife's new Traverse last night, my new Silverado today. Dealer left off the trim plates at my request, but I had to remove the vinyl decals on the liftgate / tailgate. Mine came right off. Hers took a little extra light scraping with the edge of my thumbnail. Zero residue on the tailgate. The liftgate was a different story.

Ended up wiping it down with Goo Gone to get the heavy adhesive off. Washed it, rinsed it, and dried it. Then, I sprayed a little WD-40 on a paper towel and lightly wiped to get the remaining adhesive off. Washed it, rinsed it, and dried it again. A little wax, and she's good to go.

I had to chuckle... Wife came out a little later and asked what I was doing (doors were open on both vehicles my mats were, water on the ground, etc.). I told her I had to remove the dealership emblems and she got all irritated looking. "What? I like that! It made my car look like it was a Corvette" (the dealership uses the checkered flag in their logo - clearly, she knew it was there and knew what it looked like).

I told her "Sorry... We don't get paid to advertise for them and it's a security issue in my eyes."

That was it. The conversation ended there and she moved on. :)
