Look at these photos and you will understand why Polaris has just acquired the coolest looking snow-bike on the planet. A cross between a snowmobile and dirt bike, the Timbersled looks to be the next big thing in winter motorsports. Timbersled comes to the Polaris family having been a private company manufacturing in Sandpoint, Idaho.

If they have a 2-stroke one, I'm in! First pic is a 2-stroke - I like it. Looks like fun.

Wonder how long before my state bans them?

IRMC, one of the last issues of Motocross Action/Dirt Bike/Dirt Rider had a pretty extensive write-up about these machines/add-ons. Looks to me to be a pretty cool feature if you don't want to shell out for another toy or take up more space in a shrinking garage. Plus, if you're handy with a dirtbike, you just opened up 3-9 more months of riding, depending on where you live. I'm more than willing to do some R&D on these though, you know, for the site and all.

It might seem cool until you look at the prices... You can buy a nice sled for the same money one of these kits cost that will outperform the dirt bike by a long shot. And then you don't have to put hours on the dirt bike during the winter.

while cool, it looks like it may Destroy snowmobile trails rather quickly

Ive rode these things and they are way more fun than any sled, especially in tight hilly areas with deep snow. They can't do any damage to a snowmobile trail, at least not more than the sleds themselves. Besides these things aren't made for trail work. These things shine off the main trail & are best in the woods, bowls etc. They need good power to work right though.
