Colorado won't start

Recommended Posts

My son has a 2006 Colorado with the 2.8l I4 and it won't start. He is in the Army and was out on training for a month and when he got back and started his truck after a few minutes of running it died and will not restart.

I first suspected the fuel pump but he has been able to verify that it is running when the key is turned on.

I was wanting to see if anyone had any ideas of where he could look next? I am not familiar with the Colorado's and any issues they may have so don't really know what he can check next..

Thanks!!

Will not restart may be the battery, but dying after it was started could be the alternator. Attempt to blow the horn, if it is weak the battery volts are down, take it in to have it checked. While you are doing that, check your alternator belts for cracks and looseness. If either is present, replace. Also, look at the alternator belt tensioner to ensure it still in good shape and not cracked. If all that check out, then you may want to have the alternator checked. Don't forget to check your fuses.

Fuel pump is running, but what is the fuel pressure? Does it crank? If it does crank how does it crank? Does it crank fast like no compression or does it buck and chug? Have you scanned for codes? Is the theft/security light on? Flashing? This thing needs compression, fuel, and fire to start just like everything else (suck, squeeze, bang, blow) what part of the puzzle is missing?

It turns over okay, just doesn't start.

He does not have a code reader so I don't know about that but will have him see if he can get one..

Thanks for all the help!!

  • 2 weeks later...

At that age I would say fuel pump and or the ECU for the engine.

We have a 2005 and the ECM went in it last month and the fuel pump went this month.

Same thing both times all it will do is crank over untile the battery is dead.
