Silverado Z-71 Front Bumper-Skid Plate 22944883

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ordered a replacement piece for the front bumper to replace one with a license plate bracket. Mine came with the bracket already installed and I live in a state that does not require the bracket. Thinking about ordering the part and putting it on myself, just wondering if it's a hard job or not.

I had the part number for the exact piece you're refering to, specific to the z71. I asked the parts department at the dealership while I was getting my oil changed. Unfortunately I threw it away for some stupid reason. Same dilemma as you - had a front license plate bracket but didn't need it because of the state I live in. I just drilled the rivets and plugged them with ~3/16" plastic plugs from the hardware store and painted them to match the plastic piece (top two just used black plugs).

I'm pretty sure you'll have to take the front bumper off in order to get that piece off but I could be wrong. Someone please correct me if so. However that isn't such a huge deal if you can get a friend to help you. I vaguely remember that piece costing in the neighborhood of $130 from the dealership.

I am replacing my 1 piece black LT front bumper cap with the 2 piece LTZ/Z71 cap.

Lower piece is about $83 iirc, upper about $43.

You may have to drop the bumper to install. There's about 40 bolts holding this stuff on.

Dropping bumper is easy once you get the grill and upper bumper trim off.

I can give you the PN for the upper of the 2 piece trim, but my lower is silver off a 2015 Z71 with the silver/chrome package, so thats probably not what you're looking for.

FILLER PANEL

$45.69

Thats the upper trim with towhook holes from iamgmparts. GMPD says on their site they wont ship it to your door for some reason? I went with IMGMP cos they were cheaper anyway.

I drilled my rivets out on day 2 of ownership to get rid of the license plate bracket. Just left the holes there. Not that noticable, but I can understand one wanting to plug them. If I ever get a plate, I'll use screws or small bolts to mount bracket back on.

My new 15's silver piece is dented and paint is cracked. I want to replace mine also. I don't think you need to remove the entire bumper to put this on. I was laying under it the other day.

The silver skid plate for the z71 was $142 from my dealer.

I got the silver skidplate as pictured for about $83 on GMPD. I can dig up the PN for you if you like. (its a pita to do that's why I haven't already.)

The problem you're facing with doing this with the bumper on is the lower air dam and the skid plate are attached to one another. If you want to do this with the bumper on you're gonna need to get a 7mm (or possibly 10mm, can't remember off hand now) socket and a ratchet and spend a LOT of time under the truck taking bolts out all the way across the bumper. You MIGHT be able to wiggle it out but they're sandwiched in there and held on with about literally 6-12 bolts in the center of the bumper.

I'm sure it can be done, but it took my father and I a good 15-20 minutes to move the 1 piece skid plate and air dam from one bumper to another on a saw horse. I can't imagine how long it'd take laying on my back under the truck with sand and dirt falling in my eyes.

darkfox1, those are exactly the pieces I need. I found the part numbers for them. Did you have to buy any hardware or were you able to re-use the hardware you already had?

I didn't realize at first that the bracket was screwed into both pieces and not just the skid plate part. I really wish my dealer would not have put that on there, or I would have had the sense to negotiate something when I was purchasing the truck about them swapping them out.

Since I'm coming off a 1 piece skid plate I'm missing 1 "pop-it" for the middle where the 2 piece connects to itself.. if that makes any sense.

So far though everything looks the same, so it looks like all the hardware can be re-used.

If you already have the 2piece I'd say you're good to go with just the lower plate if your upper is good. (I haven't seen any with front tags, we don't require em here in GA.)
