What type of oil comes in the 6.2L?

Recommended Posts

Most likely their AcDelco Syntheitc "blend".

You can change the oil whenever you like. Does it really matter what they put in it at the factory?

EDIT : just noticed the new trucks are using 20 weight oils, why the change?

I'm purchasing a 2015 Sierra 1500 Denali with the 6.2L. Does anybody know if GM uses synthetic or regular oil from the factory?

Look at the quoted post below they are 100% correct.

I'm also guessing they use the ACDelso syn blend (made by Mobil). It's a good oil for the oil life monitor intervals (which seems to be around 7,500 miles)

^^^ Winner winner chicken dinner, 0W-20 synthetic blend oil. On a side note your dealer will not let you upgrade the free oil change to a full synthetic oil change. GM will not give the dealership any credit so they will not do it.

0w20 in the 5.3 and 6.2.

The 4.3L gets 5W30.

The 0w20 requirement came with the redesign for these DI engines.

This article was published when they were introduced.

(and has the oil quantities from before they were revised to 8 qts for the 5.3 and 6.2)

A friend of mine used to work on the line in their Grand River plant (Traverse, Acadia, etc) and swears up and down they used Mobil 1 there despite those engines/vehicles not requiring it. No idea if it's true but he's usually not one to BS so maybe there is some truth to it.

HOLY SHIT!!! My 6.2L engine takes 8.5qt's of oil now?!?!?! Damn oil change places have to be loving these new DI motors.

Check that should be 8 qts.

The 2010+ camaros also use the same amount of oil

That's why I added the note. The link was to an article from 2 years ago.

They have since revised quantity for the DI 5.3 and 6.2 from 8.5 qts to 8.0 qts.

This forum has discussed the change before.

Yeah, even changing it yourself with a synthetic like M1, it was a bit chunk of change. The days of the $25 oil change are gone. The good part is that you don't need to change it every 3000 miles. ...You can. But you can also rotate the air in your tires every 500 miles and buy new tires every 20,000 miles too.

I think my 2012 GT500 used about the same as well. At least GM uses 0W-20 which is some what common. My damn Ford had 5W-50, try finding that on a store shelf.

Well I got 3 free oil changes left. That should last me about another 1.5 years. After that I may have to price out some AMSOIL and just do an oil change once a year.

I plan to use AMSOIL myself and I'm creeping up on my 1st oil change for this car. I'm shuttering at the though of how much that is going to cost.

I think I was about $60 with Mobil 1 from Walmart in the 5 qt jugs and a M1 filter...that's figuring the leftover 2 qts in the 5 qt jug are accounted for on the next change.
