What do you carry for your CCW?

Recommended Posts

Third member, pumpkin, differential just different terms for the same thing depending on where your from or what you want to call it. Same around here with clip or mag. I know the difference. Why let's just post it to the media you fanged libs.

But it's actually called a mag. It's not based off location, it's based off knowledge. It's just a friendly reminder is all. Join the military and call it a clip lol.

Yep, a mag is a magazine and a clip is a clip!

Has nothing to do with location or what most people think it is.

Maybe this will help:

Forgot the belt fed clips too lol.

"Magazine" is French for storehouse or storage place. The "storage places" for cartridges in firearms in general are called "magazines," whether they are detachable—as in the detachable box magazines generally found in automatic pistols—or fixed. The Mauser C96's magazine, for example, is filled by stripping rounds into the magazine from a stripper clip. The Garand's magazine is filled by inserting an "en bloc" (there's that French again, just what it sounds like, "in block form") clip of eight cartridges.

Incidentally, "clips" are not "magazines." When we refer to, say, an M16's "30-round clip" what we really mean is "30-round magazine," which is shorthand for "30-round detachable box magazine," the full and correct description.

Ammunition is also stored in magazines, called igloos...but you need to deal with large amounts to hear that term.

I noticed the clip/magazine thing a few pages back and just let it go...most don't understand there is a difference.

Maybe it's my angry military side speaking, but every time I hear clip over magazine, it's drives me crazy haha. It's not personal to anyone else. It's just my messed up head. Seriously tbough, it's a magazine .

Really that's what you want to argue about. Such children. It is a generic universal term in conversation.

The thing is that it's really a difference between a clip and magazine. It's not like calling soft drinks either soda or pop depending on where you live. No, clip is not a generic term. It might be to people that aren't all that gun savvy, but someone that actually knows guns knows the difference and uses the right term. What's worse is that you say you know the difference, which you might, but to still call it the wrong term just because some people call it a clip makes me wonder. The only people I've heard or seen call a magazine a clip are people that aren't into guns and just doesn't know the difference thinking it's a "generic" term as you say.

Oh and by far nowhere neat being a liberal. All I did was correct you and wasn't arguing with you. You don't see people calling a Chevy a GMC do you just because they're both a GM?

I guess Ruger is making sure even ignorant people can find what they're looking for.

I mean I've seen a pic of a Glock at a pawn shop or gun store and it said Glock rimfire revolver so you can't always go by what a tag or package says.

Those people need to work on their marketing verbiage lol. To me, it's all about knowledge of your hobby/interests. I have been taught it's a magazine by my military instructors, by friends who are special operations instructors, and also by swat cops. By no means am I trying to be "higher than thou", it's just me sharing knowledge. If I came across that way man I apologize. The word clip has always sounded either thuggish to me (rappers don't talk about mags, it's all clips [probably why they can't shoot for shit haha]) or uneducated. Then again, I'm also a huge firearms enthusiast, so I try to maintain proper knowledge and training.
