What do you carry for your CCW?

Recommended Posts

Most lefties I know use their index finger to operate the slide stop and magazine release. With a little practice they became very proficient at it. As you mentioned, an ambi safety is the way to go.

STI

Most definitely.... Practice makes perfect... But with guns like my HK that are 100% ambi i see very few lefties using 1911s

I know there is a company that makes 1911s for lefties. Likely I'll go that route instead of modifying one. I refuse to conform to a right handed world lol.

Not as scary as a guy shooting a gun for the first time AT the CCW class lol.... My brother was on his left and i was on his right....

His target was sprayed all over. He had a stoppage and turned around with the gun in his hand NOT pointed down range..... Safe to say he was removed from the class...after i yelled at him as well.

Anyone here carry a 1911?? Maybe a comander or a compact. Ive been toying at the idea of getting one.

I carry a Colt CCO frequently. Commander slide on an Officer's frame so a little smaller in length than a Government and a little shorter in height than a Commander. Still 7+1 capacity in 45ACP.

You should also consider the various bobtail options (S&W and Dan Wesson among others). I would like a Dan Wesson Guardian in 38 Super as I am lacking any 38 Super options at the moment and like the 9+1 capacity.

Yeah, I don't appendix carry. My preference is strong side at 3-4 o'clock in OWB, but IWB sometimes as well. I normally conceal, but Georgia is fine for OC so it might be lazy CC sometimes.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have carried for my job for years (work outside by myself walking timber) but just in the last few years started to carry concealed. I started with a ruger lcp .380 and last year I got a ruger lc9s pro 9mm. I do not like shooting the LCP but it is my favorite to carry because it easily fits in my front jeans pocket and does not print easily with my nemasis holster. I carry the LC9 IWB in the small of my back. I still carry my old Ruger P95 owb for my job but that gun has seen its better days, pretty beat up and is starting to have shell ejection problems.

Send it back to Ruger for a tune up. Or if you've shot it a ton maybe change the recoil springs. I haven't figured out how to completely kill any of my Rugers yet. I did blow a piece of the extractor off of my SR40 while working up some loads for it, put a new extractor in and it's been going well for the last 5 years.

That is the problem with Ruger P95, the recoil springs are no longer being made along with a bunch of other parts for that gun.

Really? Ruger sent me 5 lock washers for the ejection rod on my Security Six and they quit making that gun 30+ years ago. Even if Ruger did run out of parts for the P series I'm pretty sure there are parts from others available.

If you can find them then let me know. Some parts do come up on ebay every now and then but they are either too expensive if new or they are used parts which to me is not worth it. There are still a parts for the P85/89 series guns but not so much on the 95 series. I emailed Ruger last year about it and they responded that the gun is no longer in production and that they were not going to be making any parts for it in the future. The lady who emailed me stated that if there is a problem with the gun under warranty that it would be replaced with a comparable model (there are still some floating around gun stores that have not been sold). I have seen the P95's at gun shows for $300 new and less than $200 used, I may pick one up down the road.
