Old member, new truck! Dallas, Tx. 2011 Sierra 6.2L/NHT

I have been a member for quite a while but have rarely posted so I figured an introduction was still appropriate.

 

I have been driving my 5.3L/3.73 Sierra SLE for seven years now and the truck has 210,000 miles. I still love the truck but decided that due to the age/mileage and the much-improved safety of the NBS trucks that I needed to upgrade. And as long as I'm upgrading, why not get a 6.2L? Two weeks ago, after a long search I finally found a truck I liked for a not-ridiculous price. Wow are people ever proud of these trucks! But I guess that's to be expected because of how rare and beastly they are.

 

The new truck is a 2011 Sierra SLE, 6.2L 6-speed with the Max Trailering Package. I bought it sight-unseen from a dealership 800 miles away, bought a one-way plane ticket there and then drove it home. The dealership thought they were doing me a favor by filling the truck up with 87 octane so I had to drive 350 miles before I was able to fill up with 91 and feel the full power of this combo. But, I wasn't disappointed. zero-to-speed-limiter in about 15 seconds, yee-haw.

 

I probably test drove a dozen of these 6.2L trucks and I think only one or two had premium in the tank. I wonder how many people test drive these trucks and are unimpressed by the power, not knowing that running on 87 octane takes away about 50hp (according to the butt-dyno)? If they read this forum, they would know better. As soon as I made the deal on the truck, I ordered the Airaid MIT (+9hp, thank you BlackBear dyno test) and scheduled a BlackBear tune in Ft. Worth, Tx. the weekend of April 24th. Any other members going?

 

Filled it up with E-85 last week for $1.59/gallon and although it felt faster than when it was running on 87, it still did not feel quite as strong as running on 93. I managed to eek out 13mpg over an entire tank of E-85, driving cautiously. Looks like I am getting 15-16mpg on premium. About 1mpg less than my old truck.

 

I'm very happy to be here! This site is a great resource and I have learned most of what I know about these trucks by reading the forums. Thanks to the admins/mods for a job well done!

Congrats on the new truck......Not really "rare" but they are very impressive power wise.

 

You will really be impressed with a tune, it wakes these trucks up.

Thanks everyone. Justin, you're right that these 6.2 trucks are not really "rare", maybe a better word would be scarce. Anyway, I'm loving the truck even though I only averaged 14.7 mpg on my last two tanks of 93. I don't think I could ever go back to a 5.3.
