My county decided to go with the Exploders after trying the Charger out for a few years when the Clown was discontinued. They like the perforamce of the Charger, but again not enough room. they seem satisfied with the performance of the Ego Boost Explorer and like the AWD with that, but they also still get a few tahoes for K-9 and supervisors. Rank has it's privledges. the department I once worked for has gone with the Taurus. What a ugly POS. Fast, but ugly. As for the V-6 9C1 Impala & Caprice.. It may not be any V-8 but it's still faster than the Ego Boost as far as top end goes.. you're good for 149 MPH governed, unless specified a lower cut off when ordered. (My civilian Impala with the 3.6 is governed at 114, came from the factory with the speed rated tires for that range but I've seen some of the rental Impala LTZs get them up to 149. (from what some on the Impala forums are posting)

Lol @ rank having privileges. I'm a sgt at the largest agency between Houston to New Orleans. Pool cars are being upgraded first, which I'm cool with, and Sgts and LTs much later. I'm still in my old Vic and probably will be for another year. Although I only have 72k on it. But you're right. Most businesses put the supervision in nicer rides, but not where I'm at.

I wish that they would give us some of the new Caprices to use. Last year we started getting rid of the Crown Vics at our station and replaced them with the Chargers but they have the small 3.6 v6 in them. I'm glad most of our fleet are Tahoes and F-250s.

GM's 3.6L is

305 hp (227 kW) @ 6800 rpm 264 lb·ft (358 N·m) @ 5200 rpm 19 City / 29 Highway

the Dodge 3.6L with the new 8-Speed Tranny can get 31 MPG on the highway.. 292 hp (218 kW) at 6350 rpm 260 pound-feet (350 N·m) at 4800 rpm

Both are pretty 6's getting the car to 60 in 6-7 seconds. (depending on who tested them)
