My truck stinks inside.

Recommended Posts

The inside of my 2015 Sierra smells like really bad B.O. Before you ask, no it isn't from me. It's coming from the dash area around the touch screen, or at least that's where I noticed it the most. The truck has 1,200 miles on it. The funk subsides when I get the A/C kicked on drawing fresh air from the outside. If the truck sits for a while it'll stink again. It's real bad when I get in it after it sits overnight or for several days without being driven. I have an appointment to drop it off tomorrow at the dealer so they can have it overnight and experience it for themselves, lol. They seem to think maybe the OnStar antenna has a small leak and it's mold I'm smelling? Anybody else have anything like this happen?

None of my other trucks have this nasty smell, BTW.

There is a TSB on this. Mold and mildew grow in the ac vents. The fix is a Lysol type spray into the inlet at the base of the windshield while at full blast vent. Real Lysol works fine. Just make sure you use a scent you can live with.

GM has a spray available at the parts counter.

The forum above is where I learned how to work on AC. Chick has been a straight shooter and I trust his recommendations. DWD2 is what he recommends.

Got the truck back this afternoon. They finished it around noon but I didn't pick it up until after work, so it got to sit at the dealership for several hours after they fixed it. So far it's promising, I didn't notice anything other than faint new car smell when I got in it. The real test will be after it sits overnight and I get in it tomorrow.

As for the cause, the dealer seemed to think it was something in the vents. They ran the GM recommend disinfecting spray through the system and turned on the afterblower.

Here's a guy doing the DWD2 treatment.

Kool-it has their version

I used a similar product on my 2001 Tundra. I couldn't believe all of the junk that was flushed out and it solved the bad mildew smell issues.

Our truck 2019 Silverado with 20000 miles smells like BO. It's worse when it sits overnight.smell is so bad you can smell it on your clothes after a ride. We changes the filers, detailed it, bought the product to kill orders and nothing. Please held if you gave this isse
