Waxing a full size truck

Recommended Posts

I found out that if you clay before you wax it looks 100% better and seems to last longer. It took me a full day to clay my Camaro and then the next to wax it. But boy does it ever feel smooth and look good.

Try to be a glass half full person. Just think that now doing a car seems much easier now. When I wash my truck I just do a section at a time and from start to finish (including getting everything out and putting everything back up) it takes me an hour just to wash my Double cab. If you think of it as just going from one section to another it doesn't seem as bad.

By the way, I've never waxed any vehicle, not even my '14. The only way I would is if it's a pretty decent scratch that I'd want out.

Everytime you wax the clear coat gets thinner. Not much of course, but overtime I would think it would make the clear coat weak. Especially if you wax it every week or every month.

This is incorrect. Polishing paint will in fact remove clear, but using a wax or sealant will not remove any clear coat. Compounding, polishing and waxing are three different things. Check out junkman2000's youtube channel. He explains everything really well and is very honest.

Ya sorry, I don't know what I was thinking lol. I know waxing adds to the clear.

It sure is a lot of work to hand wash and wax a full size Silverado crew cab. I did mine this weekend. I can do two cars with the same level of effort.

Agree with you, imagine doing one with a 6" lift on 35" tires. Spend a lot of time on a step ladder. Worth it our trucks are amazing cleaned up.

What is everyone using? Been using Adams but thinking about trying Zaino, never tried it.

There are other products out there and I have tried a few. Adam's seems to work well for me so I will continue to use them. Their Americana wax is awesome. Never had a wax last as long as it does, even on my black vehicles.

I've probably used every wax and sealant known to mankind! I used to be quite anal... (ya think?)

Anyway, after many years of waxing/sealing, etc., I've narrowed my work down to one product, which I think does the best job of any all-in-one sealant I've ever used, and it goes on just like any detail spray, just spray on, wipe off.....

Zaino Z8 .... best I've ever used. Wash truck, quick wipe down with Z8, done.....

Makes my truck look like this.....
