Maybe... but I'm pretty sure smart work pays much better.[/qoute]

Semantics...

:D It's like that story about only having to run faster than the guy next to you when the bear is after them. You just have to work smarter than the guy next to you.

Having kids isnt THAT expensive, but it does prevent my wife from working full time during the day. Once kids are gone priorities change and gradually overtime incomes change... Any kid driving around in a 60k truck is either in debt up to his eye balls and will file for bankruptcy by age 27 or mom and dad bought it for him... which i have nothing against but dont be jealous of what others have, be happy with what YOU have because YOU worked for it and earned it.

I think they are reasonably and competitively priced as well. Take a step back and look at what you get for the price. What are you getting with the Mercedes GL that you aren't getting with the High Country?

Do you have to ask that question? You get much better quality.

Vehicles now a days are an extension of your home with a/c, heat, different views, comfortable seats, TV, Internet, park by itself, drive by itself some day and etc. and comes in different sizes. Almost like buying a home especially now it cost me the same when I purchased my first house. The only issues it doesn't keep it value and a bad investment to most.

Almost like a time sharing but they are starting to come up in value lately.

Yup. It's all about technology. That's what we're paying for. Along with Research, Detailed Design, Materials, Manfuacturing, Labor, and Bells & Whistles. (and 22" chrome wheels!)

And with that technology comes reliability. Back in the 60's-70's it was common to see cars/trucks broken down on the side of the road! Not in today's world. I can't even remember the last time I saw a broken down vehicle... what, are there no bad cars anymore? Technology has fixed most of those problems. That's what we pay for.

Benz vs any Chevy or Ford or Lexus or Acura, etc = not even close. SO many differences that are not "technology" that it's not even funny. Tech is cheap. Construction is LEAGUES apart.

Yes, my wife drives a 2015 C-Class (which is 100% different from 2014) but I have had a 2013 E350 and a 2009 C63 as well. I have spent literally weeks or months in every Benz model (in fact I am in the car business and Benz is my primary business). You just can't compare the Benz with anything else.

The only reason I have a Vette and a truck is I can play with them, mod them, tune them, break them.....and not cry when I do it. I don't want to smoke an AMG motor!

If I ever won the lottery the only Benz I would consider would be any AMG. Not much into luxury, but if I did want something that was luxury and performance it would be an AMG. If I did want luxury and performance I would probably end up getting a Cadi CTS-V though so it would be easier and cheaper to maintain and fix. Since I'm not into luxury I'd be just fine in a classic muscle car (which I like better than modern muscle, but when it comes to Vettes I'd rather get a newer one).

Mercedes didn't build the longest lasting, most dependable pickup truck in America. They make nice cars though.

lol. they build a lot of things that would stomp the prototypical american pickup truck in the dirt. it's a big world out there, friend.

my dad had an e55 amg. Thing was absolutely ****ing nuts; no other way to describe it. If you cant pay, then dont play. AMG's arent cheap (2k for breaks every 20k, tires are like 1500, services can get into the thousands quicky, ect). The best part is that they depreciate so fast so you can get serious savings on one 3-5 years old as long as you're okay buying a used performance car (its not as bad as it sounds). Damn i miss that car

I'm actually referencing the conversation above comparing the pricing of the Mercedes GL-class with a Silverado High Country. It's kind of a meaningless discussion because they are two different vehicles. People pay astronomically high prices for a pickup truck like the High Country because they want luxury features AND the functionality of a full-size pickup.

But, to your comment, no, Mercedes doesn't build a pickup truck here in the US. Even GM makes vehicles more robust than its K2 line, but that's not relevant. The K2 operates in the full-size pickup market. There's no shortage of demand, and the product is very good.

You simply can't compare german vehicles to their american counterparts. I drove a 2004 BMW M3 before getting the truck, and that BMW, despite being 10 years old, still had pretty much everything the truck has, and then some more. They make the best of the best. You buy one of those cars, and then besides making it yours with personalization, there's nothing else you need to do to it. Hell, even technology wise. The 5.3 EcoTec3 V8 has 355hp. The 3.2 I6 S54 in the Beemer had 333. And that's with 1999 technology. No direct injection even. That and the E-Class my dad has set a new standard for me, in terms of build quality. I mean, steel control arms? Really Chevy? (I don't actually care. I'm just pointing out construction differences).

Of course though, all of this technology and quality comes at a price. The M3 had $1500 services every 20k miles, $1200 tires every 15k miles, and so forth. 20k mile service for the E-Class was $900.

The truth is that old saying we all know all to well: you get what you pay for.
