Truck prices are out of control!

Ya I'm one of those people that are in the middle which is why my LT and the options it has are perfect for me, well other than the 3.08 gears. I don't care for leather seats, I'd prefer cloth even in a performance car. I like some technology but to me you can go a little overboard. I understand people are using trucks as a daily driver (like I always have) but some want it to be a luxury truck also, which that part I don't care for. People now are also using trucks has the family vehicle which is why I seem to see more crew cabs than anything other cab style.

in our household, the Title of "Family Vehicle" Belongs to our 2010 Suzuki SX4; because that suzuki has a few more bells and whistles than our Truck and a LOT More Bells and Whistles than My Aveo. and the BASE PRICE for a 2015 Silverado RCSB Work Truck is roughly the same Price that Lowe's Paid for our 2009 RCSB 1LT!

(whoops, Double post; mods, if you would be so kind as to remove this post, I really appriciate it!)

I believe I paid 47k OTD for my High Country. Did I need a luxury truck? Nope. But when you spend a bunch of time in the seat of that vehicle, you wanna be comfortable. The truck is quiet, rides amazing (way better than a lifted 02 lol), and actually has plenty of power (wish I would have gotten the 6.2). 7k miles in 3 months isnt a lot, but it is definitely more than most people drive. I wish I could have picked and chose which electronics I want, dont really need the collision alert, parking sensors, etc. but the backup camera is one of the best add ons that I use on the daily. I can backup to a trailer in one try now!

The pricing inflated with the inflation of money. I think its a bit expensive, but its all based on the economy

I guess I can be comfortable in the lesser trims. First of all, I can't stand leather. My cloth seats are comfortable as hell in my '14. I've taken 2 one day trips to the beach which is 300 miles round trip and was as comfortable as can be. The first trip I drove 100 miles at the beach so it was 400 all together that day. I never felt uncomfortable. Same goes for the cloth buckets in my 98 Z71. I put a good 2,000 miles on it one month going back and forth to the mountains for the trucking school and that was also comfortable. My LT has everything I would want and nothing I wouldn't want. So I'm one of those people that want a medium optioned truck. I want some things while not needing the things I really don't think I actually need.

Pffff.... My 95 Z71 4x4 was $15000 new.

I had to take a jab at that one.

my 96 with a 5 speed was 20,500... I don't even know what power option is missing. Seems to be seats forward and back, but has power lumbar. I don't need electric seats anyway.

it shipped with a non-dynamical rock flasher and perfect computer at the same time...

I can understand the prices today, the computing is wrapped in near perfection. One purchase could be a 25-30 year time frame with little complaints.

My own value is my own skills..I learned computing, and the special needs. I look at anything from obd2 generation and later, even today. It is about knowing the trucks.

I'd pay the big bucks, but won't.

I'd rather see a million miles waxed straight and bright lights...

that is a million dollars.

My other truck has leather and I like the ease of cleaning it up (eat and drink basically everytime I'm in the truck lol). Nice thing with this truck is I wanted to upgrade from leather to leather with heat, and this truck came with the a/c seats so that was a plus. It's actually pretty cool. Not just that but the brown interior really caught my eye. I'm a sucker for brown interiors lol

Another thing that makes me look the other way to leather was that I test drove an '06 2500 just for giggles a few years ago and it wasn't that old at the time, no more than 5 years I don't think and the leather was all cracked up. While the cloth seats in my 98 looked fine other than 1 cig burn from before I had it. I'm not sure how good the leather is with GM now in the trucks, but at least before cloth would last a lot longer. Maybe the leather quality is better in the K2s compared to earlier years. Same goes for the dash and interior all together. The whole interior just seems to be a lot better quality than previous years. But the dash in my 98 was almost perfect, no cracks or anything. So it's like the quality took a dump for a few years after the GTM400s.

Agreed. Truth is no one that can afford to buy the bells and whistles opts for less because, "they don't need it." Needs and wants are a direct representation of our pocket books. 5-10 years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of buying a vehicle with a 60k price tag. These days I'm blessed to be able to do so. Hard work pays.

Maybe... but I'm pretty sure smart work pays much better.

It's sad when an American pickup can command the same price as a high end luxury European car; I built a Silverado High Country with all the bells and whistles, and it priced out at $62,109, and that's a couple grand less than the BASE MSRP of a Mercedes GL!!

Sent to the Interwebs by an Apple

Pickup prices can get high because they pack nearly as much tech/lux stuff as that Benz. And they'll get you there in bad weather and tow your house too. What is so surprising here?

Also don't forget that you'd have to be nuts to pay MSRP on a fullsize pickup.

Unless $ grew on trees for me, i would never order a truck with all the "bells and whistles"..

With that said, I was fortunate and lucky enough to find a left over 2012 silverado ltz / 6.2 on the lot that was ordered and someone else backed out on the deal.. It sat on the lot and no one wanted it because of the motor and bad mileage. And because of this I got a great deal on it and that is the only reason i bought it.

The sticker was over 44k+ , which IMO is crazy.

10 year loans with 0 down are getting people to ignore the prices and jump into a sub prime loan head first.

Another "US population in major debt" warning was on the news this morning.

The edge of the bubble is getting thinner

Mine's 7 year and I didn't have anything to put down as a downpayment. I used my old truck with a seized engine to pay for my toolbox and N-fab bars. I surely didn't ignore the price. If I ignored the price then I would have gotten a crew cab standard bed. The crew cab short bed was about 5K more than my double cab so I didn't want to know how much more a crew cab standard bed was. Plus like I said before, I'd rather have a longer period loan than a short period. I know it's more interest, but the difference between a 7 year and 8 year loan was minimal where it didn't matter. Plus getting that 5K off sticker the added interest was still under 40K when sticker was 41K.

Kids grow up, you get older then you spoil yourself. Then the only problem is you find what you thought you wanted isn't such a big deal anymore, so you spoil the grandkids.

Welcome to my life! That is my exact thinking. Love those little guys!

Wasn't talking to anyone in specific, was just warning of the incoming problem.

GM has said the take rate on LTZ Tahoe is well over 50%..... They start over 60K, and they have had to add a shift to work 24/7 at the plant, because they can't keep a decent stock of Escalades at dealerships, which start at 70K.

People are paying the prices.
