Dual income household.

Ryan

This.

I'm single, I live in a fairly large single family on some acreage.. I have enough to get what I want, but the idea of having TWO new high end vehicles is impossible for me.

Thing is though.. being single, I can only drive one at a time anyway.

You say that truck prices are out of control... A completely loaded truck is no different than a fully loaded sedan. In fact the loaded truck is actually better because it's more functional.

Back in the day, before trucks had bells and whistles, and they were just trucks, yes, they were cheap.

Well, they still are. A reg cab work truck is $26,670 MSRP and you can probably buy one for $23k. There are many guys out there who don't care anything about creature comforts in a truck, and just want a truck. A nice, brand new truck for $20-25k. Pretty good price in today's world.

Like I said, if you can comfortably afford it then I'm happy for you, means you are doing well for yourself. I don't have kids, I'm paying for quite a bit of our wedding in June, still paying off college loans at $400 a month, no mortgage but I rent right now, and just paid cash for an older truck when I sold my HD. I get the dual income household, it will be nice to finally experience that with my new wife come July.

I guess I need to find a better paying job. :P But to be honest, I like my older truck for right now.

Ya I'm one of those people that are in the middle which is why my LT and the options it has are perfect for me, well other than the 3.08 gears. I don't care for leather seats, I'd prefer cloth even in a performance car. I like some technology but to me you can go a little overboard. I understand people are using trucks as a daily driver (like I always have) but some want it to be a luxury truck also, which that part I don't care for. People now are also using trucks has the family vehicle which is why I seem to see more crew cabs than anything other cab style.

And as for being able to afford the upper trims, a lot trade in their current truck or a car which takes a lot off. I didn't trade anything in and didn't even have a downpayment and my monthly payment is in the high $500 range, being a 7 year loan helps also. When I got my 98 in '04 it was 6 years old so it was 1 year too old to get a 5 year loan so I had to get a 3 1/2 and it was only $200 cheaper per month than my current truck, and I had a $1,000 downpayment on the 98. To me I'd rather take longer to pay it off to lower the payment and for 200 more a month look at everything I get over the 98. I did get used to no payments, but the way In treated that 98 I'm glad it's out of my hair.

Thanks for reminding me, I need to get my sister in law info on our wedding. We did a bunch of it on a it own and saved a ton of $$$$.

One man's steak is another man's hash.

My wife and I drive vehicles that are both less than 2 years old and both cost about the same. The payments don't change the way we live nor affect whether we want to go out for dinner or go on vacation. That's the way it should be, IMO.

Agreed. Truth is no one that can afford to buy the bells and whistles opts for less because, "they don't need it." Needs and wants are a direct representation of our pocket books. 5-10 years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of buying a vehicle with a 60k price tag. These days I'm blessed to be able to do so. Hard work pays.

To me the most important thing is to be happy with what you have.

All the unnecessary electronic garbage puts the price through the roof even though it fails within a year or 2 of owning it.

Well it's that and the Unions. God forbid a janitor at an assembly plant makes less than $15 and hour. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for someone being paid what they should, but getting paid a lot more than you should and then having to ask more for the vehicles because of the unions is what I don't like. I and most people with the new K2s got a good amount off sticker. My sticker was 41K and ended up getting it for 36K and that was before any little haggling. The electronics thing is also one of the reasons I don't like all the upper trim stuff like park assist. The backup camera works good enough. The camera isn't a must but it takes away the guess work and the "hope I don't back into that car". My LT is optioned about middle way, has some things but doesn't have leather seats that are heated and cooled and a few other things. I was lucky and found a truck that was perfect for me, had the things I would like and doesn't have the things that I wouldn't want. Only thing I don't like about it is the 3.08 gears which I plan on changing out whenever I can.

I believe I paid 47k OTD for my High Country. Did I need a luxury truck? Nope. But when you spend a bunch of time in the seat of that vehicle, you wanna be comfortable. The truck is quiet, rides amazing (way better than a lifted 02 lol), and actually has plenty of power (wish I would have gotten the 6.2). 7k miles in 3 months isnt a lot, but it is definitely more than most people drive. I wish I could have picked and chose which electronics I want, dont really need the collision alert, parking sensors, etc. but the backup camera is one of the best add ons that I use on the daily. I can backup to a trailer in one try now!

The pricing inflated with the inflation of money. I think its a bit expensive, but its all based on the economy

in our household, the Title of "Family Vehicle" Belongs to our 2010 Suzuki SX4; because that suzuki has a few more bells and whistles than our Truck and a LOT More Bells and Whistles than My Aveo. and the BASE PRICE for a 2015 Silverado RCSB Work Truck is roughly the same Price that Lowe's Paid for our 2009 RCSB 1LT!
