22" wheels Vs. 20"

I'm about to purchase Yukon Denali XL and I saw an article in Car & Driver where they weighed the GM 22" wheel/tire combo and it weighs 88 pounds! I'm trying to decide weather to go with the 22"s that look better, or the 20" that probably weigh less and improve the ride. Can I get some opinions on the ride part of the equation and does anyone know what the 20" chrome wheels/tire combo weigh?

There's just no comparison in the looks dept. The size of these suvs just need larger wheels for proportion IMO.

22s were an absolute must for me. The wife didn't really care until she got her new wheels. As far as ride goes, it's just as smooth. I always say that if 22s were harsh, you wouldn't have been seeing them on top of the line SUVs for the last decade.

I run 20's during the winter months and 22's the rest of the year. (Chrome + roadsalt = not good).

 

Very little difference in ride quality. The 20's are a little quieter, but that's primarily due to tread pattern.

@Blackout07 & Luster, you two have the exact two wheels that I would want if I went to 22". Meanwhile I'm picking up truck Monday and it has 20" chrome Denali wheels and dealer claims not having anything to switch them with so I seem stuck. Any ideas?

If you try cheaper Chinese sensors, they may or may not work.

My dealer said he didn't think he had any truck he could switch the wheels to that have 22" he could put on mine. The other Yukon Denali's he has in stock not sold have the same wheels as mine. If he tried to do the switch through his parts dept. It would be very costly. Thanks for sensor info I will get these and perhaps keep both winter and summer tires. They have aftermarket wheels that look like yours for about $1,700 do you believe these to be good quality?

I have 22 " wheels and the ride is just fine, plus they look great

A lot of the GM accessory wheels are back ordered and will not be filled until production catches up with demand, so I'm sure that's what your dealer is saying. What I did was sell mine for $1200 and went with GM replicas for a fraction of the cost. Plus with replicas you have many more options. Check eBay. Even discount tire can get replicas.

If they are GM wheels they would be excellent quality. Be sure they have the GM stamp on the back of the wheel. 22" tires are pricey as well, best to shop around for best pricing.

Just bought this vehicle. It had factory 20's and Continental tires that came on it new. I didn't like the looks and dealer was able to swap me out for a set of takeoff CK157's and OEM Bridgestones. In my opinion, it handles a lot better, and of course looks better. I can tell very little difference in the ride. If anything, the 22's in this case ride better. Attached pics of both sets.

I'm probably in the minority...I tried two different sets of 22's. I put the original 20's back on my 16 Sierra Denali and can tell a difference. It's not major but they do ride nicer and that is why I bought this truck...I traded in a 2015 3500 Duramax. I think the 20's are also better if you get it off the payment at all. Yes the 22's look better but function outweighed the looks for me....which is not normal for me..I must be getting old!

 

If interested I have a set of 22" wheels (the ones in my avatar) with sensors and Bridgestone Dueller AT's that have only 1000 miles on them. I also have a set of PVD chrome 22" Cadillac style wheels that were on the truck for 500 miles...they have GMC center caps. .
