Which vehicle should i get?

Well, I really hate doing this, but it was fun while it lasted. I'm selling my truck tomorrow. Yeah, its paid off and such. Some of you would say, why? Its paid off, enjoy it for another couple more years. Yeah I wish I could. Just gonna sell it so I can get everything back on track in life. I am keeping my Memphis amp, only thing thats in/on it I'm keeping, it'd be going into my new ride. I've had my truck since 2009.

With that being said, I have two vehicles picked out, 01-04 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab TRD 4x4 V6 5 speed. Resale value is pretty damn good on em, but they will last. Have any of you guys ever had a Tacoma during those years? Just looking for some feedback.

Other one is a Chevy Tahoe Z71 in about a '05 model. V8, plenty of room, leather and heated seats, Bose, and thats my favorite body style in the Tahoes. Plus, they're already colomatched which I do like. Could be cheaper or about the same as the Tacoma.

I don't hardly tow that much, but when I do it'd be pulling my 4wheeler or etc. My plans on either vehicle I get is Tint, hids, aftermarket HU and subs, exhaust, debadge and new set of tires/wheels. i probably won't be doing no lift like I did on my Silverado. So far, I'm leaning towards the Tacoma. My plans are to drive this for 2-4 years, then might get one of the new Colorados with that Dmax engine thats loaded out or a GMC Sierra that has the 6.2L CC loaded out.

So far thats my plan and might as well do it since I'm still young, not too bad of a plan, I guess. Anyone else got any recommendations of what vehicle that I should?

The Taco prior to 2005 is a small truck.

 

Even in the crew cab (that is what double cab means in Toyota speak right?) the interior is small, you sit low compared to other trucks and the interior is sparse. They have rust issues in northern areas. Timing belt is a decent expense. But they are reliable trucks.

Yes I'm aware its a mid-size truck, I'm 6'2 and weigh 240, hopefully it won't be too bad. Yes, their double cab is crew cab. Now their ext cab is pretty small, thats why I want the double cab for. If I buy one, I'm gonna try to buy one down south somewhere or one that doesn't have much rust, they say change the timing belts every 90K,

 

I think the Tacomas look really sharp with only a few mods.

 

And I think the cost of ownership might be lower than for a Tahoe.

I'd consider this to be the better choice to get back on track.

I've saw some pretty sweet Tacoma's with some mods on 'em.

I think it would be cheaper then the Tahoe in maintenance wise.

 

My grandpa has Toyota's and my uncle is currently looking for one too.

I really like the 01-04 the best,

I believe the 'Hoe will actually be cheaper maintenance wise, it's one of the easiest platforms to find parts for. All of the parts I've needed on my pickup have been affordable.

 

You're a big guy, from what I've seen the seats in this era of GM's are pretty much "universally" comfortable. Not bad to fit in for a tall guy either. Not to mention, the gmt800 SUV's ride is smooth as butter.

 

I think if you drive one of each you'll pick the Tahoe. Personally I'm amazed at how brutally slow Toyota manages to make their vehicles. I'm no speed demon at all but over 10 seconds 0-60 in a 4runner? Come on. I liked the idea of the TRD Pro models until I saw how slow they are.

 

I think "downsizing" is a good move for you though. Doesn't hurt to have less money tied up. I wouldn't hesitate to get a 'Burb either, the extra space can be really nice.

i've owned 4 toyota trucks in total, all were rock solid and bullet-proof. but there's no way i would downsize to an 01-04 style tacoma. they're just not roomy enough or comfortable enough. between those two choices i'd choose the tahoe. actually i'd keep your current truck (which looks nice by the way) but it sounds like that's not an option for you and you've made up your mind to sell it. i assume you plan to put some money in your pocket with this transaction?

Your selling a newer vehicle, to buy an older one? If you had payments, it would make some sense, but you don't. Honestly, I think your seriously down grading. Your going from your nicely modified, lifted full size that isn't that old, to mid size, excuse me, junk, in my opinion. As for the Tahoe, again, older everything, including interior.

 

Keep your truck.

I agree.. Seems like the smart thing to do would be to just hold on to the truck.... Unless you can make money by selling your truck for more then your paying for the taco but still your getting into a new to you vehicle that you have no idea what the history on it is...seems like an unnessecary gamble.

Would you be able to end up with cash in hand after buying either of these 2 trucks? If so, then I would go with the Tahoe. After owning your truck, you won't like how cramped the Tacoma is.

 

 

Since you're not out any money on your truck, I'd keep it. Your business is your business, but you're not really out anything if you hang onto it. Besides, you're looking for a truck that's older than yours.....what's the odds that it's in as good of condition as yours?

Owning a vehicle that you first hand know the history of versusb

one that could be a time bomb should be considered. My brother bought a clean GMC once to find out it had been a company vehicle that was never maintained in the hidden parts ( transfer case, diff, fuel filter.... After a few years hardware started failing).
