02 silverado system

LT is the highest trim level, correct?  I don't know all the details on the 2002 model, but on the 2003, there would be a separate amp located in the center console.  Might want to check there for it.

I'm not sure of the wattage on the factory head, sorry.

But you might be better off just buying an external amp to power the stock speakers. Some like these results better than replacing the stock speakers.

Either way, you will get a big improvement in sound.

Which route to go for the best results for your money? You will get thirteen different opinions for every 10 people you ask on that one. It's a matter of preference.

I replaced all the speakers (added a couple too :flag:), and added a couple of amps in mine. I kept the stock head unit in there, so as not to attract attention. It sounds amazing...I'm very happy with it.

Hope this helps.

I didn't change the speakers (yet). But I did add an amp to the stock unit and a small (10") sub to make up for what the stock speakers couldn't provide. Sounds pretty good and loud. I expect it will get significantly better with new speakers. And like the other guy says, it doesn't attract attention.

I would start with new speakers, that's all I have done so far and mad huge inprovement. If you do not plan on adding an amp in the near future I would suggest you don't go with speakers that have a real high power rating, for they will also require more power for them to perform correctly. Go for a more hi fidelity speaker that uses less power instead.

Thanks for the replies.  I've been thinking about upgrading my stereo and then started thinking about a lift and tires.  I'm laying everything out and am going to see which one I want more.

Thanks for the time on the above posts.

Here is food for thought............

YOu can go out and buy a $1000.00 head unit and amp that will push 100 watts per speaker.  But if you run all that thru some cheap a$$ $50.00 pair of speakers you have the sound of $50 bucks...  Do it right and get some nice speakers now and then down the road upgrade the head unit or add a amp...   Don't skimp out and buy crapy speakers......

Just my .o2

  • 3 weeks later...
is it easy to add an amp and sub to the stock system???

Yes, it is.....Well that depends on your mechanical abilities of course.

It's all pretty straightforward. Even easier if you are only going to use one amp to power all the speakers, and the sub.(5 channel) although, those are kinda pricey.
