177k miles on transmission with original fluid, still works.

Ok so I bought this truck used with not much info on it other than its a 1 owner.

Truck has 177k miles on it & I'm pretty sure it's the same fluid from day one.

Doesn't smell burnt at all & tranny shifts normal.

So should I even swap out the fluid or leave as is?

Give me some ideas guys on what to do.

I personally would just do a pan drop, filter change and call it good for another 50k miles.

Yep, drop the pan, change the filter. I suggest changing the oil in the pan, run it for a bit, change it again. This way you will get about 75% of the old stuff out. I really don't suggest transmission flushes because it pushes everything backwards through the transmission. Plenty of stories about vehicles that come in with the tranny working fine, and after it has been flushed, it needed to be torn apart.

Ok ill do that.. drop pan and replace filter & the fluid lost, run it and change fluid again.

Now what about the pan gasket?

Is there one better than the other or just use what oreillys carries

Both times I've done this I just used what was in stock. Just make sure the gasket surfaces are good clean before reassemble.

Drop pan, clean pan/ magnet, remove filter change fluid. Repeat again in about a month cuz you break loose a bunch of **** that'll clog up the filter
