Pump won't stay on during fuel ups

Recommended Posts

During the summer and warmer days my 2014 sierra fuels up fine, now that its cold out the pump kicks out over 10 times every fill, i have tried going to multiple different gas stations. Poor tank design? or does mine have an issue? thanks

Mines the opposite. It will kick out on the warmer days, something to do with the hot gasoline fumes. Try pulling the gas pump out of the filler neck a couple inches to let the fumes escape. Other than that I couldn't tell you what else it could be

it has something to do with the anti cyphon system. The fords ive had no issues. Chevys, which has been 4 of them in the last 8 years, some worse than others, but all have had it. It also is compounded by different pumps, they must be dialed in to go off at different pressures. In one of my chevys Ive actually had instance where I had to leave the station, couldnt get more than a gallon into it. At the end of the day, I just find it to be a qwerk of the vehicle, nothing that really ruins my ownership. What I find more of irratant is the fact that GM hasnt gone to a gas cap less filler nozzle like ford.

hahhaha, I thought I was either too stupid to do this correctly or just a random occurrence. But this does happen to me more than I would like to admit. I constantly have to play with the pump my either putting it in all the way or backing it out until it stays on. Its annoying to say the least and really only made me angry this morning when it was 20 degrees out and I could not get it to stay on.

Same thing happens with my Silverado, I figured it was because it was lifted and the angle was bad but it looks like its a common theme. As with most other problems in life, just pull out to avoid any major annoyances.

Realize this is an old thread, but I too was wondering if others are experiencing this. It absolutely drives me crazy! I'm standing in the cold/rainy/snowy/windy elements trying to get gas and the damn pump won't stay on! First world problem for sure, but I've NEVER had an issue with any other brand of vehicle (Mercedes, Hyundai, Lexus, Toyota, Ford, Honda, etc.).
