I think I am going to change out my gears when I install my lift, since I found out yesterday that my boss has a good friend who works at a gear shop who does this kind of work all day long. This guy is willing to install my new gears and get everything good to go for a case of beer, as long as I supply the gears obviously!

Now, I am pretty sure I am going to go with 3:73 ratio, up from my 3:42 now, with 33 inch tires. I want to keep some highway fuel economy, so I think the 3:73 may be better than the 4:!1 option.

My question is, should I go the extra mile and install an E-Locker? I honestly don't like the G80 setup. It engages under load at speed, I can only imagine how hard that is on everything! I want to be able to manually select an open or locked diff from the dash, and air lockers are out for me, as I do not want to have an onboard air system on my truck.

Anyone here have any experience with Eaton E-lockers?

Thanks!

I've been wanting an E-Locker up front for a long time since the G80 works fine.If your G80 works why not put the E-Locker in the front?

edit:Guess I should ask if your truck is a 4x4 instead of assuming...

The G80 only engages under 20mph when there is wheel spin. But if you'd like something else and don't mind spending the money you may as well upgrade.

In my opinion the e lockers are good quality. But more street worthy 4x4's run the air lockers. The air lockers seem to be more reliable, and most people do want onboard air (why not?) so it makes sense for them.

I don't think there's much out there for front lockers in these pickups, maybe 1 or 2? I know I couldn't justify the extra abuse from a front locker.

I definitely have no need for a front locker. I like the ability of being able to select the locking function when I want it with the flip of a switch. I am pretty sure I am going to re-gear my truck when I lift it, so if I want an electronic locker, that is the time to do it.
