Bridgestone Dueler A/T

Blue Ghost

Recommended Posts

I installed a new set of 285/75/R16 Bridestone Dueler A/T's with Revo on my 2002 Z71 on Tuesday, and must say the ride and handling kicks butt!!!, seem to ride much better than my friends BFG's plus the side wall and tread pattern look killer!!!

I've got 265's on my 99 and love them.  Great ride, great wet traction, good snow traction(especially this winter).  I've got a load range C and run 37psi all around...max is 50- anyone else have their pressure #'s?

It was a tough decision between the Bridgestone and BFG tires.  I ended up going witht he BFG All Terrain mostly because the tread pattern was deeper and I think that BFG is of better quality.  The Bridgestones were much cheaper though which was hard to pass up.

I have the dueler H/Ls, also rated to 50 psi cold

Are those 265's?

Yep, LT265-75R16.

My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that they're a little noisey - and sometimes in the winter I wish I had a little more aggressive tread.  Otherwise, couldn't be happier.  :thumb:

I have the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo LT265-75-R16 E rated tires on my 96 GMC K2500 which replaced a worn out set of BFG A/T E rated tires. I keep the Revo's at 50 psi (max is 80 psi)

I've had the Revo's for about 2 weeks and have driven them in some very heavy rain. These tires are by far the best tires I've ever driven on wet roads. These tires made the rainy hiway seem like dry pavement. If mud and snow performance is as good as rain performance, then I will be a repeat purchase of this tire.

Here's an interesting story..

I went to Hibdon Tire Center (Tires Plus) to by a set of Yokohama Geolander II A/T or the Bridgeston Dueler A/T in a D or E rating. The saleman told me they don't have em in stock and pointed me to a set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T (non-revo). I bought the tires for $125 each and drove off the lot and headed home. I immediately noticed these tires were squishy and it felt like I was riding on balloon tires. I checked the tire pressure (42 psi) and noticed the max pressure on the tire was 50 psi. I then noticed these tires had a c rating :banghead:

Tires Plus has a 30 day test drive so the next week I took them back and told the saleman I needed a D or an E rated all terrain tire. I asked if they had any dueler revos (they didn't)... it turns out the ONLY all terrain tire they had were some E rated Firestone Steeltex A/T for a butt-raping $162 each.

I had no choice, so I paid the difference for the Steeltex tires and drove off the lot with them. I immediately noticed these Steeltexs tires were crap when I took my daily junction from I-40 west bound to west bound I-44. I always hit the junction at 60mph and not expecting anything unusual I entered my turn and which point the Steeltex tires started squeeling, I let off the throttle, and had to stomp the brakes to keep my truck from sliding into the retaining wall. The next day we got some rain and I came to a stoplight and my truck wasn't slowing down. The ABS kicked in and had there been a car in front of me, or in the intersection, then I would have been in an accident. The crappy Firestone Steeltex A/T tires failed me for the second time in 2 days. The next day I'm driving 70mph and noticed the truck felt like it was not nearly as stable as it had been with the BFG/AT's. Imagine the feeling of having a 3 inch wide solid rubber tractor tire, this is how my truck felt with the Firestone Steeltex A/T tires.

To say I was disgusted was putting it mildly. I went online and did a search on Google for Firestone Steeltex A/T and found out that tidbits:

1. These tires are rated 2nd to last at thetirerack.com

2. These tires are banned in Saudi Arabia

3. These tires were recalled in Brazil

4. These tires are notorious with RVer's for throwing tread.

5. There is a classaction lawsuit against Firestone regarding belt separation.

6. The steel belt in the "Steeltex" line are made of cost savigng thin steel.

7. The rubber is hard and prone to cracking. The hard rubber not only makes the tire last (the only good thing about the tire) but also makes the tires very slick.

People were saying the Firestone Steeltex A/T are like "slicks on mud" ..."slicks on snow" and "slicks on water"

I would like to say the Firestone Steeltex A/T tires handle like skinny tractor tires on pavement and there is no way in #### I'm going to keep these dangerous tires on my truck foir 70,000 miles.

Some reviewers were saying the tires are OK for the first 10,000 miles, then the tires performance "rapidly degrades" with useage..   I can't imagine how they could get any worse than they already are, but I'm not willing to find out..

You you ever heard of "church busses" having a blowout, then rolling, and killing some of the occupants? Did you know that almost all of these Church Busses are Ford Econoline vans trod with Firestone Steeltex tires???

I called a different Hibdon Tire Center and told them the original store only had the Steeltex A/T in an E rated tire and I was not a satified customer and Firestone has a "30 day test drive".. I told the salemans the Firestone Steeltex tires were crap and only a Sadist would let a customer buy a set of these for their truck. The salesman was able to locate and install the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's with the E rating that I had wanted originally. The difference between the #1 rated tire and a #22 rated tire is amazing.

The Revo's are a sticky tire and the rubber is designed "not to turn hard"  with age. They are supposed to be good for 50,000 miles. I cannot over emphasize enough how impressed I am with how these tire handle in the rain. Here in Oklahoma we get thunderstorms with very heavy rain and I was able to drive 70mph without any problems..

Gotta love Hibdons. (Tires Plus)

Most other tire places wouldn't have entertained you through 3 sets of tires.

Gotta love their customer service.

I'm torn between the Revos, and the Nittos...I better make up my mind, my Firechickens are just not gripping like they used to...Oh...Wait....They never did.
