Oil in intake tube...anyone else check theirs???

Recommended Posts

I guess its "normal" for oil to get into the intake tube, but with the stock tube there are plenty of baffles that make it less apparent. With an aftermarket tube, it seems like the valve cover vents can suck more oil mist and accumulate it in the tube and over time it can drip down the tube back to the air filter box.

I did install the CSS. Check my video below. However, I was lucky enough to find an original RX branded CSS from a member here. They do not sell them anymore, there is another brand called RX speedworks that is selling a similar looking product but it is not the original CSS. Same with their catch cans.

If you want a good quality catch can and CSS, look into Elite Engineering's products. They are the next best on the market now.

And here is another video of when I was changing out my Air Filter. this is when I first noticed the oil pooling in the tube and intake box. Right around 3:30 I start to find the oil in the tube and box.

I bet if you emailed RX direct at their AOL address, they would still sell you a CSS kit.

Where did you get the adapters for the airraid?

I just took a look at my air intake and it is bone dry plus when i looked into the manifold it also looked like no oil was building up. So maybe I am lucky. Either way, I ordered a catch can from Elite. I put an order with RX, but since it was now mentioned they are fake, i canceled my order.

It also depends on how spirited you drive. I drive quite spirited (love that corsa).

I got that same setup that you have and just installed the airraid and clean side separator today. Had the catch can on already. Did notice some hissing after install that wasnt there before with just the catch can. Everything is tight so im thinking the hissing is coming from the the oil cap since all the pressure is going through it to get to the intake tube. Are you hearing any hissing like this? And great videos! Really helped.

I haven't noticed any abnormal sounds with the addition of the can and CSS.

The more i listen to it Im thinkin its the pulleys on the front of the engine Im hearing. With the bulky stock intake on Im thinkin it muffled the noise from the pulleys. The airraid opems it up more.
