Headlamp Housing - Condensation

They wouldn't do anything past replacing the headlight pod and adjusting the beam. Take the HID out, replace the caps with unaltered ones.

 

im thinking theres no way the techs didn't notice them between the light output and the added wiring beneath the hood but on the same note i can't see them doing the added work that's needed on install

I'd pull the hid unless you're real cool with the tech and dealership. The tech doesn't care because he gets paid either way

ugh this thing is killing me. I have been talking with some auto service techs and they say it sounds like the dealer is doing me a favor and to leave it but idk. I got friendly with the chevrolet after sales manager for my region so ill get with him and see what he has to say.

took mine in, they looked at it and said its normal to fog up because of the vented light but should clear with the lights on. Now I do safety inspections on motorcycles and its the same for cars, fog is a fail. they told me when the light is on it should clear in very short time. Mine was so bad I had to leave the truck at my shop because I could not see. after 10 min of warm up there was a 2.5 inch round clear spot through the fog and after a 3 hour drive down the highway it was still foggy on the bottom 2 inches on my 15 sierra. in the end he took pictures and sent them to gm and they came back willing to replace the lights, now it seems like its going to happen again and maybe while they are in there they will do the update for the bulbs.

My dealer was sposed to order me a pair of headlights, been 3 weeks not a word, guess I need to call, how long has it been taking u guys to get yours? Maybe there's a backorder

Be honest. Disclose to the servicing dealer that you modified the lamps and take it from there.

just yanked em.... there was a significant amount of water in the headlight... maybe a whisky glass worth. now im confident it wasn't because of the HIDs... so ill let them replace the housing then ill rip it all apart and re-install... this way i can take the lights inside install the bulbs (even ordered some canned gas to pump in) then seal it all up nicely just to be safe.

If you have a lot of condensation, try using a paper towel and rice. Wrap the rice like a burrito full of rice. Tape the paper towel shut and stick it your housing overnight. If you modded caps to fit HID's or something similar, you may want to use a cap that is still sealed, so the rice will absorb the moisture in the housing and not out of the air. It's not completely necessary to use a sealed cap, just more efficient. Worked very well for me, as I acquired a lot of moisture from adding a modified end cap and going through the car wash before properly sealing it.

I am having the same problem with my 2014 GMC Sierra SLT, the lower half of my head lights have interior condensation. GM's recent response is that this is normal and I will have to pay for replacement head light assemblies myself. Unfortunately, GM's customer service department is subpar, transferring you from person to person, no one knows any answers other than "this is

normal".

 

I would encourage everyone experiencing this same problem contact GM and inform them you want this rectified, a resonable person would not see this as normal. Document your conversations because GM will refuse to communicate this either by letter or email, they state it is "proprietary" information. They will only fix it if they hear from all of us.

My servicing dealer changed my headlamp housing due to the condensation buildup.

 

I took the truck in, expressed my concern, the service writer had his manager inspect the headlamp housing for any visible damage (there was none) and he then authorized my service writer to replace it as a warranty item.

 

No haggling, no discussion. Done.
