I had a 1988 Formula, ended up never getting the title for it, and bought a 1989 Formula 350.

It was stock, then it got some headers and sidepipes, then it had a 383 built for it, then a cammed 6.0 LS. ARD in Houston butchered the car and robbed me, I parted it out and sold the roller for $500, barely got $1k back of the $10k or so I spent with that shop. I ended up getting the same car back in a trade for a 1981 Formula I had at the time. My friend that traded it back to me rebuilt a junkyard 5.3 and cammed it. It still had my old built 4l60e, and I got a custom harness made, then rewired the rest of the car to match. The only 3rd gen parts of the car that are left are the body and interior. In fact I don't think there is a single mechanical part on the car that isn't new or transplanted from a 4th gen. A long term project, but I'm doing it myself, I know I'm not getting robbed this time. I even taught myself HPTuners to tune the car.

1985 custom deluxe 2wd long bed. Cream yellow and rusty brown. Dropped in a 400 small block out of a 74 impala. Could make the back right tire scream for well over 100 ft just by smashing the loud pedal to the floor rust?.

1988 Dodge Omni.

Purchase Price: $100

Issues:

Blown head gasket

Broken rear hatch window

Broken turn signal switch

Hydraulic brake system inoperable

Leaking valve cover gasket

Major power steering system leak

Timing belt gears misaligned (belt jumped)

Bad thermostat

Defective radiator fan switch

Broken horn switch

1 stripped spark plug hole

No muffler

When I was 15, I sold all my toys (dirt bikes, go carts etc) and bought this car from my friend's parents for $100. The car needed a lot of repairs, and I didn't have much experience working on cars at the time. I bought a Chilton repair manual, a handful of tools, and went to work. Fixed everything that was wrong with it, and then used it to pass my drivers test. Although I have owned countless cars since then, I will always miss that one the most. That car was a great piece of crap. I would love to buy it back, but I'm sure it was crushed years ago.

That is what I thought, cousin to the Pontiac Ventura. Can not remember what the heck the Buick was. Good looking car by the way!

Thanks, that car changed life. I bought the car when I was 14 with money I made cutting grass. A friend of my dads painted the car for free (God rest his soul). The very first night out with a drivers licences a girl in a 78 cutlass pulled up beside me and said " i love your car, will you take me for a ride". Best night of my life! It was also the first and last time that scenario played out LOL.

Back when life seemed a lot easier. I am a firm believer that one time is still a lot better than zero times, plus stories always get better with age!
