Duramax Question

Recommended Posts

I was curious if anyone knew what the break in period for the duramax is. Beacuse i drove one at the dealership, beacuse i was thinking of getting one and it was a total dog. I have a 8.1 right know and I would kill that thing in a race.

Does anyone know if the 04 DMAX is going to come with more power to answer to fords new deseil.

Of course your truck will beat a DMAX in a race.. Why wouldn't it.. Hook a 310 John Deere to your truck and a DMAX go up a 10% incline and see what happens... Yeah your truck will lose...  but I'm sure in 04 or 05 they will get more go.. In the next 10 years I want to see the tanks we will be driving to handle this power these new motors are putting out.  #### in the 80's the trucks didn't have no hp in today's standards and we still beat them to death..

I have a 02 8.1 and a 03 Dmax.Dmax is faster empty or loaded. When pulling a 15,000lb trailer the 8.1 feels lethargic especially on the stop light launch.Dmax really come to life when broken-in.When loaded Dmax really proves its worth,it doesnt burn oil either like 8.1. :banghead:

I test drove the new Powerchoke 6.0 and it was a pig. I have to say I had to push the pedal half way to the floor to get the ford going. I drove 50 miles one way to get to test drive that Ford and wound up driving back here and buying my GMC. Love it and it will kill that ford...Maybe the one I drove was a lemon..I hope so for Fords sake. But then again I it was that word that started with an F..You the 4 letter word you should never say....

Yea, the BBC will just go cower in the corner in those circumstances!

It'll do the same the D-Max will, it just needs to rev more to do it.  Remember, it's just a low compression big cube motor doing the same as a nearly 100 cube less motor that's under nearly twice the compression ratio and under forced induction!

I've driven both D-Max's and 8.1's that were total dogs and I've driven both that would annihilate tires ate the flick of the throttle.  Too many variables such as manufacturing process, assembly process, whether or not it was built on a Monday or Friday, as well as state of "break in".

Heck, this past week I drove a C4500 with a D-Max that felt by my calibrated "Butt-O-Meter" to be snappier than my snappy little 8.1!  Then again, I drove a 2500HD also with D-Max that my beater Grand Prix felt stronger than.

It's a total different feel than a gas engine.  If you want to race, then a diesel isn't what you should buy.  It's that simple.

Driving my D/A for the first time it felt a little sluggish compared to my 6.0 too, but I soon found out that you have to put your foot a little more in the pedal to get it to scoot...and scoot it does!  My idea is that the throttle by wire is making the pedal movement feel different than the reg. throttle linkage.

I'm very impressed with the D/A and I can't wait for it to break in more.  So like I said at the beginning, if you are looking to race a truck don't get a diesel.  Although there are some out there that would make you feel like the slowest person on earth too.
