Compass, GPS, NAV and OnStar all failing

Recommended Posts

I just got this issue a couple of days ago too!!!!!!! OnStar advisor says I need to bring it in to the dealership to get it looked at. It works sometimes when the GPS does not show a red slash next to it. But it has the red slash most of the time now :(

I would suggest mentioning the onstar module before they tear apart everything trying to figure it out.

I am not sure if this happened to you guys. I drove today and GPS worked for a little bit until i stopped for gas. When i started the truck again, it was red slashed again the entire 5 hour drive :(

Morrislee - sounds like most of us are told either - water entering the antenna housing and causing a short of some sort - or Onstar module is bad. As yet - I have not seen anyone report one or the other has been the official cure - perhaps the smart dealer will order both parts and replace the easy fix first. with Back ordered parts and waiting - Whoever is up and running first with the right fix should try letting the rest of us know what worked or didnt.

At the end of the Day - I will also be hassling Onstar or GM - to reset the clock on the free onstar/wifi/XM trial to the date that my unit has a Green OK light on my mirror. That seems fair - as the unit is not 100% functional.

This is how mine started. Went out for a bit, came back, then went out for good.

At this point, I just want them to give me the 4G LTE upgrade NOW, I will pay for the hardware and install if I have to.

They kept on saying January will distribute the solutions. nothing in the mail yet.

Same here. I'll be missing out on about one month of free Onstar so I'll definitely be asking for that back.

I've had my '15 for a little over a month and looks like I have the OnStar module failure as well. Compass constantly reads CAL/OnStar light red.

So where is this module physically located in the truck? Not gonna be happy if the dealer has to start tearing apart the dash. The interior is so quiet, I'd be pissed if this "break" of the factory seal in the interior causes a rattle...

Have exact same problem as discussed with my 2015 Silverado 1500. It went out on Dec 13th 3 hours into a trip from Wilmington, NC to Baton Rouge, LA. I wasn't able to get it diagnosed until my return on Jan 2nd. 3hrs to diagnose module failure and still waiting for back ordered part to arrive. I guess I'm not the only one - symptoms were identical to others posted already. I'll also be asking for a reset on my OnStar and WiFi counter. I'll post the service order when it finally gets fixed.

Don't sweat that its really pretty easy to get to and little chance of rattles. The trim bezel pops off and touch screen has 4 bolts holding it on.
