GM has used Mobil 1 in every Corvette since 1991......this played a big part in my decision! I've used Mobil 1 and Lucas Pure Synthetic oil stabilizer since I've had around 800 miles on my 2010 GMC Sierra 5.3L. Also I use the AcDelco PF-63 oil filter. I'm happy with my setup!

Mobil 1 isn't even synthetic anymore, do some research...

I run Penzoil Ultra because of the research I have done has proved to be the best bang for the buck as well as easy to get ahold of.

Do some research people, opinions mean nothing.

I run mobil 1 in my bike, ran it in my last 2 cars. The truck maintenance history I got always had regular cheap oil changes done at XYZ oil shop ( 20$ job ) with 190k im not changing anything. If i had a brand new truck I would run Mobil 1

I assume you are referring to the Group 3 vs Group 4 (PAO) base oil debate on whether or not Group 3 is considered a synthetic. I'm not going to get into that debate but in the US, Group 3 oils can legally be marketed as synthetic. Most over the shelf synthetic oils are all or a blend of Group 3 base oils. Pennzoil is one of them. Pennzoil has gone to GTL (Gas-To-Liquid) base stocks for both their Platinum and Ultra Platinum motor oils. GTL base stocks are Group 3.

Mobil doesn't release much information on what type of base stocks they use in M1 but looking through MSDS sheets, people have determined that their M1 oils do contain a good amount of Group 4 PAO base stocks with the remaining base stock presumably Group 3. It depends on the particular oil but their is evidence that M1 0W-20 is about 30-40% PAO and M1 0W-20 Extended Performance is about 60-70% PAO. In this particular case, these M1 oils are actually more "synthetic" then Pennzoil's Platinum or Ultra Platinum. Does this make Pennzoil worse then M1? Absolutely not. Pennzoil's motor oils are very good and base stock composition is only part of the total equation on how the oil performs. For the most part, any oil that is Dexos1 certified is a good oil for our truck's motors and the oil change intervals GM recommends. There is not any hard evidence that one oil company's Dexso1 oil is better then anothers Dexos1 oil and anyone that says so is basing that statement strictly on "opinion".

I love it! You being facts to the table, that is all I ask, if someone is going to say I run Mobil 1 because it is the best then show why it is the best.

I will be honest and say I have not done the research on the 0w-20 and base my limited knowledge on the 5w-30 oils.

Thanks!

I have been researching 0W-20 oils for a couple years now as my previous vehicle required it (Toyota Tundra 5.7). When I bought my GMC, the Dexos1 requirement did limit some of the 0W-20 choices at the time. Since then the availability of Dexo1 certified 0W-20's has grown: http://www.centerforqa.com/gm/dexos1-brands (clicking on the "Visc" tab will sort the list with 0W-20 grades first). There are quite a few choices now.

I for one don't have time to waste over splitting atoms on just whose opinion says what oil is best.....quiet frankly I'm sure others might agree on Mobile 1. Why not take an opinion poll here on cite, or better yet close this topic, we're all friends here.

Or just check the Dexos1 approved list and pick out your favorite oil that meets the spec and is the correct grade for your engine.

The list used to be short, but there's lots on it now.

Click on the top of the visc column to sort by grade.

I switched to Mobil 1 for both oil and the filter and no regrets. Haven't done it to this truck yet, but I will once I start doing the oil changes. Never tried Royal Purple but haven't heard anything bad about them. Whatever brand you use just make sure it has dexos on it.

I've used Mobil 1 in my 2004 Sierra. Sold it with over 100,000 miles. Never had an engine issue nor did it ever burn a drop of oil (5.7L)

Put Mobil 1 in the 2014. Works well for me.

This is a common topic around many forums. For my 2006 Mustang Gt I run Mobil 1 Synthetic in it all the time.

On a couple Mustang Forums some people tested Royal Purple oil and found that it actually degrades faster than other oils when exposed to extreme heat and conditions. Therefore these threads recommend either Mobil 1 or AMSOIL. For driving around town and highway miles, I'm sure RP would be fine...but after reading that, I don't think I'd use it if I planned on towing a lot with my truck.

Define "extreme heat".
