Do you hear a whine from your 2014 Silverado DC?

Recommended Posts

I have the double cab LTZ, 5.3L, 2WD. With the rear sliding window open, I hear what sounds like a mechanical whine that begins around 55mph and stops around 60mph. Dealer has verified it's not wind noise or tire noise, but a mechanical whine coming from the drive train. Truck has been in the shop twice for "repairs". First they replaced the output carrier. That didn't fix it. Second time they replaced the entire rear end. New housing and all internals. Still getting the 'whine'. We drove around in a '14 Crew Cab with the same motor and 2WD, but didn't hear anything. So now the shop is trying to locate trucks the same as mine to see if the noise is happening on those. So I'm asking if any of you are experiencing it. Thanks.

I've got the same 2014 DC LTZ, 5.3L, 2WD, but it's been raining here so much I haven't been able to run with the rear slider open to test for you. I do hear a whine like a turbo whine, but that is the flapper when I an decelerating. I don't hear anything with the windows closed at 55MPH. I'll try to get a clear day and will let you know...

Don't you guys actually READ the post before replying?

Anyway - Thanks Chuck. I look forward to hearing your results. While I'm waiting for the dealer to get back to me on what they plan to do next, I think I'm going to try and record the sound with digital camera as further proof of the issue.

Finally got good weather today. 68 degrees and sunny. Drove around cycling between 45-60, especially listening between 45-55. Heard a very slight whine while decelerating. It is so slight it was hard to hear even with radio off.

Reminded me of the way my 2011 Silverado acted. I hope this helps.
