Need some advice.

So, for some of you that know my truck has been inactive for the last couple of months with a major engine problem. After all the procrastinating and saving up some money. I'm finally getting my truck worked on and getting a new engine. I'm just sticking with the 5.3, always said I'd get a 6.0. But, I'm not going too. Don't wanna mess with it and have to get a retune and everything. So, I'm getting a newer engine, with a 3 year, 100K mile warranty. So, if it messes up, its warrantied.

Looking into the future, I'm thinking about once I get it back and everything. I have thought about selling it, not gonna trade it in, but sell it privately so, I can get more out of it. Its in excellent shape being an '07 model. Even thought its paid off, I really don't want another truck payment, but the miles are racking up. Currently have 172K miles on it, next thing that will go out will be the transmission. I just have a feeling it will, since the one I have doesn't last too long. Especially, with my setup. I don't see it lasting too much longer. Then that be couple thousand more. That would just be horrible

Sure its cheaper then having another truck payment and such. Only reason I thought about selling it is, to get out of some debt. I just have one credit card and a personal loan that i just wanna get em paid off and make a good size dent in my fourwheeler payments. Just little things like that, I wanna make my credit good again. With my miles racking up, longer I wait. Less I'll get out of it, ya know?

Today, I test drove a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali, black of course. Man that thing is super nice! I like the Sierra's better in the 1500's, but the HD's I like the Silverao's better. I always said, my truck will be a Duramax. But in reality, I just don't need one and the up keep it just a lot more. But, if I do stick with a 1500, I'm gonna get a 6.2L. That's fully loaded, Crew Cab and everything. Just get the SLT, since it be cheaper then the Denali. Pretty much getting the same stuff. Anyways, my plan is to get a new truck by next Summer. It'd be a Sierra 14 or 15 model, won't be brand new, but with low miles on it. I really like almost everything about the new trucks, only thing I didn't like is the backup camera, doesn't seem too clear. It seemed like it had some lag on the screen as in turning the station or adjusting the volume. Things I can get use too, I guess.

With all the being said, what do you guys think about what all I said? I was looking for some advice and such,
I know some of yall would say keep my truck and just ride it till the wheels fall off. But, I know some other big things will go out soon and having that money if I sold it, would help me out a lot on some stuff. Thanks guys.

You're over 100k, and a new body style is out... You're playing a losing game trying to get money out of it IMO.

Transmission will cost $3-4k, right? Your depreciation on a 2015 will be at least 3 times that in one year alone. Not to mention, higher taxes and insurance. Plus all the stuff you'll buy for it.

The true way to get your money out of a vehicle, is to drive it til it breaks, then fix it and drive it more. I realize having new stuff is nice, but you already work. Why work for the bank on top of that? The best way to improve your credit is pay off what you have.

Not to mention, if you aren't 100% satisfied with the new pickup, why buy it? People buying vehicles just because they're new is what has let manufacturers get lazy...

Drive the '07 until it goes no more, until you get all your debt paid off. Right now, the '07 doesn't have a great deal of value with the miles and age.

True, longer I wait,,,,,less value I will get out of it, though.

I'm trying to say, after I get my engine fixed. Probably transmission might go out and I won't have the money to fix it once it goes out, thats another $3 to $4K all at once. Payments wise would be better and I'd have an warranty. Whenever I get a new truck, I'm not gonna do nothing extreme for awhile. I can least get $11K out of mine right now.

My thought is that if you're worried about improving credit, not having a truck payment, and are considering some pretty well equipped trucks, but mention not being able to drop $3000-4000 at once for a tranny, what kind of down payment would you be placing on a new ride? Also, you have mechanical concerns with your current truck, but how is the body?

If your in debt and have a four wheeler payment, buying a 50k truck taking another big payment probably isn't the most finically smart decision.. You may be better off riding that truck out until your debt is paid off. Also 3 to 4k for a trans? Should be less the 2 to just rebuild

The trucks body is in very good shape. I always take care of that aspect of it. I'd be dropping down least $7K.

But if I have the money and stuff, why not?

There's no reason why not.. Get a truck you enjoy as long as you feel you can safely afford the payment on it! If your gonna drop this much cash on a truck, get a dmax! You should be able to get a decent amount for your truck too since its newer and in great shape.

Thanks man. I really do want a Dmax, but idk if I can afford the up keep and stuff. Gas 6.2L is probably a better choice in reality for me.

I would keep mine if it least had the 6.0L and was Crew Cab. Maybe, I will keep it. Just something to think about. I like the Sierra's in the 1500s better. HDs, I like the Silverados better. That more bolder and aggressive front end is very nice. What's everyone think?

I'm gonna say keep it only due to you talking about debt you need to get from under, 4 wheeler payments, and not having the cash for a tranny if need be. I'd get a new motor and it would be the 6.0. That will at least get you pumped to drive the truck again and motivate you to keep it. Plus if the work is getting done, why not? If the trans goes out later, take out a personal loan if you absolutely have to. At the end of the day I think thats a better decision than taking on a new note for 5-6 years with what I'm assuming will be a less than ideal interest rate.

I'm just gonna put a 5.3 back into it, they said they a lot of problems, of people trying to stick the 6.0 in from switching the 5.3. So, thats what they said & I don't wanna be delayed more than I have too. I just freaking miss it badly or just missing driving a truck in general.

I knew someone would mention something about that. Oh well, I don't have to worry about the tv no more bc of my crazy ass ex. We dated over a year and a half. Decided to get an apartment in July, well we broke up last month and you don't know someone till you move in with someone. Absolutely too crazy for me. Long story short, I moved back in with Dad last month. Thats why we didn't get that tv, damnit. But I did get a new laptop yesterday!

Thats why I was thinking about getting a new truck. How much would my truck sell for without the engine running right now?
