Heated steering wheel

Recommended Posts

It was already there. Like my optioned truck maybe had the ability to add a heated steering wheel. When I installed the new clock spring, I noticed the extra wire loom that needed to go somewhere. Figured it had to go down into the steering column area behind the pedals. When I ran out of slack, I came across the male end of the similar connector that was peeking out of a larger harness. That's where I connected it thinking "it has to go there".

Oh, I got you. One of these days, I'll have a look around down there when I finally get around to putting in some diodes for my fogs and cargo lights. I have adj pedals and steering wheel as well, so it'll be interesting to see if i have that plug already there.

Here is a better picture with the connector disconnected.

I have a 2016 Silverado LTZ with heated heats but no power adjusting pedals and I found the connector for the heated steering wheel under the dash but it doesnt work :(

That's a bummer. I thought all LTZs came with a heated steering wheel as standard option. Guess not? So I presume you tried this then? Where did you get your wheel and clock spring from? If you got the wheel used, I wonder if it's possible that the heat switch or heat element is not working? You also changed the clock spring?

Yeah not all LTZ have that standard. The steering wheel and clock spring were ordered from my local dealer. The parts guy sells to me at wholesale price. The steering wheel is new.

Sorry to hear. I wonder why it didn't work. I looked up the Upfitter manual and cross referenced that 2-pin connector (Violet/White Stripe) and it looks like it goes to the fuse panel for the heat. Sorry this didn't work for you.

My 17 GMC Sirrra SLT doesn't have a heated steering either, "just couldn't pass up the deal I got on this one". That being said, is there an option to add it?

Not an option as per GM, but it can easily be added. Just find a steering wheel with the option and buy the correct clock spring. If you are lucky it will be plug and play, if not it is only a ground and run hot wire to the correct fuse.

so where would you even begin to look for a steering wheel

Call me curious.

I am seeing lots of wheels on ebay... most with the forward warning collision button. Obviously I am after the heated portion which they all have.

If I get one with the button, even though my truck doesn't have the system, will it still plug in? I understand I will have a dead button.

Thanks

This is why. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Number 3 on the list.
