Heated steering wheel

Recommended Posts

@pgamboa On a side note, went to my dealer to look at a seat lever issues, and the tech did a double take on my DL3 mirrors. Looked for second, and moved on. lol. pgamboa has confused DePaula Chevrolet tech.  Lol.

All day / everyday at dealers! :).

I’d like to thank @TinkeringFox for his video and @pgamboa for his help. I did the heated wheel mod after work,  and I’m very excited to have it ready for the cold winter. For those who have the heated wheel, do you notice whether the wheel maintains co start heat or cycles a little bit. It might just be imagining things.   I did want to add a few things. The steering wheel nut on my truck was 21 mm in size. I also wanted to,post a pic of the airbag with the two sensors. Overall, a very nice mod if you’re willing.

Awesome! That 21mm socket got me too. That size is not normally found in a socket set. Had to put the airbag back on and run to the store to get one. LOL!

The heat on the wheel does cycle.

Does everyones wheel get hot or very warm?.  I’ve noticed mine seems more warm than hot , so heated really mean warm .  But I imagine when winter comes, warm will feel hot . lol thanks.

Does everyones wheel get hot or very warm? So you’re saying the heated steering wheels heat cycles in out ? Or high & low, or on & off?.  I’ve noticed mine isn’t all that hot, rather  more warm than hot.

Thanks for any info.

I’ve only had it on the truck for a few hours, but in my limited testing it seems to cycle from mildly warm to moderately warm....I wouldn’t say hot but definitely noticeable. I tried different hand placements and noticed it. I thought I was imagining, but Phil confirmed it above, so he knows what he’s talking about. Either way, it will come in handy. The heated wheel I added also seems to be slightly thicker and softer to the touch than my old wheel. I’m not sure if that’s related to the heat or not.

Thanks for the info, thought is was just mine ?

My wheel seems warmer on bottom half of wheel vs the top half. Anyone else experience this?

guess I could bust out the temp gun

Mine was the same. There seems to be some logic that regulates the temp.

Just think of it as a huge mood ring. You can express your mood through the button in the center, the truck can alert you to it’s mood by being warmer or colder to you and, in rare occasions, punch you if you stuff the bumper into the truck in front of you.

Well this is fun... so I ordered my wheel and whatnot but tracing this is kind of a pain.  My truck doesn't have the connector under the dash for the heated wheel plug... and I do have power adjustable pedals.  So for fun I pulled the fuse block out and I already have the pin in the block and the violet/white wire that runs to X201 on the bcm.  I obviously just don't have the actual connector portion of the harness where it leaves from the bcm again.  I'm not seeing how I easily get the bcm down or to it to add any wiring though... but I am sure I will figure that out.

I made this for this scenario.

I mentioned Phil’s harness to another member in a different thread. I think folks assumed that adjustable pedals mean the wire is there, but I have a buddy with the pedals and no plug. I’m not sure if the member discovered a plug or not.
