tattoos

Hi folks,

I've always been curious about tattoos and their meaning.

A co-worker of mine has got a lot of tattoos. Both arms, shoulders and chest. He told me that the tattoos represent a Viking saga. They tell a story so to speak. I was kinda impressed how much thought he put into it. And I really like it.

Since I don't have any tattoos and have no idea what would "suit" me I'm wondering if you guys and girls wanna share your tattoos and their meaning or the story behind it.

Sometimes there is no story. Just an idea or an inspiration from a picture or so.

It's not like that I'm against tattoos. Not at all.

If I had the right idea I'd get a tattoo.

I just don't want to penetrate my skin just to be cool or "in".

Thanks.

I only have one tattoo but for me it wasn't about a story. It's a piece of art that represents myself at a snapshot in time, and something that was important to me. I got it when I was 19 or 20, I'm 28 and still don't regret it. I taught myself to play the guitar, Ive performed at an open stage at a large local festival and a couple of local social events. It all started listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd in my red '94 Pontiac Sunbird coupe. Free Bird is still my favorite song of all time despite my musical tastes changing. While I only play very casually now, not at all since my guitars had to go in storage, it was a big part of my life for a while and helped shape who I am. I have a double outline of an eagle and three stars on my right pec.

I have one tattoo on my back in tribute to my very best friend. He was killed in a motorcycle accident only a few months after returning from duty in Iraq as a Marine. He had many tattoos, and I had told him if he were to lose his life fighting for our country I would honor him and his service by gettting one for him. He lost his life during other circumstances, but I wanted to keep my promise. I now have my brother behind me for the rest of my life, just as he would of been if he was living.

Never had an inkling to get one. Seen way too many young guys in the military get one to fit in, then regret it later on. Some even had them removed later, at a cost of several thousands of dollars and permanent scars.

Not for me, but to each their own.

That are all the reasons why I don't have one, yet.

And I don't mind skulls or flowers as a tattoo. It has to impress me by how it's done.

The details, colors (or not) and the whole theme if there are more than one tattoo.

Maybe I'll never find a motive what I like and want to have as a tattoo. So be it.

But maybe some day I'll find a unique motive what suits me. Then I'm going for it.

I am new here, but I will join in with a couple pics.

My nephew is a tattoo artist so he did my ink, I am a avid bowhunter (bow only-no gun hunting), and my nephew did a great job.

This is my left shoulder: my face in medieval archer attire.

This is my right shoulder, I am a Leo(born in July) and I have had my Leo personality pointed out to me my whole life.
