coolant smell

Schlegle1, I feel your pain. My experience at the dealership where I purchased mine as well as another one closer to home have been about the same. I received a survey from the selling dealer (not from GMC corp) on my service department visit and sent back a rather terse response to which I have yet to hear a peep. I also received a similar survey from GMC on my visit to the second dealer which was just slightly more favorable. I'm beginning to think these are just going into the recycle bin somewhere.

As far as my leak, last weekend I decided to take the top drivers side bolt out of the top fan shroud to pull it away from the radiator a bit and low and behold.....right there in plain sight is the leak. Right now I'm at about 15% on the oil meter so next time I take it in for a change I'll point it out to them. Heck, Stevie Wonder could have spotted that with just a little bit of looking.

Exactly, the last time my truck was there i told them "keep it until its fixed" they had it for three days and i received a call where my service adviser said "we've had it on the pressure tester all night, still are unable to find a leak." I said did you run the truck and check for leaks then when it was warm? the response i got was "we would see it with the pressure tester either way." I don't believe any of these consultants have any mechanical knowledge anymore. I knew right then and there that this was going to be a less-than-favorable experience. Truck goes back in monday to have radiator put in, we'll see how this goes. Because i also now have a bad rattle noise on cold start-up under the drivers side that i mentioned and took video of. My adviser said "we'll take a look but theres a TSB for engine noise on cold start that says not to do anything."…..i feel like its a revolving door.

I had the same issue, it was indeed the heater core. My truck was the first the dealership here in Austin had to perform this fix on. Took them 3 weeks but it fixed the issue. I told my advisor start at the heater core and then work from there, sure enough they pressure tested it and found a small leak.

I just noticed green colored snow around the front of my truck and popped the hood to find a smell of burnt coolant. Took my truck in this morning and they have the part on order. I believe mine was a crack in the radiator.

Meanwhile, they gave me a brand new truck to drive....nothing like beating on a truck that's not yours! ;-)

It was green, and was coolant. I thought GM ran orange/red coolant as well...but I guess not? They replaced the radiator because it was cracked and leaking. I asked for details so when I hear more I'll be sure to post.

Just had to take my truck in for the same issue. Turns out they found a leak in the heater core and my ac filter was clogged like no other which is odd considering the truck only has 30k miles on it. Hopefully this fixes the issue and also that GM takes notice and puts a recall out for this.

My radiator was finally changed as well, not sure if its in my head or not but it seems as though my heat is terrible now. Takes the truck running for a good 20-30 min to get anything noticeable coming out of the vents.

Hmm....truck was off at this point. Popped the hood and smelled the coolant. Smoked like that for 10 mins maybe. Hasn't done it since, and I'm watching the levels, but when I am close-by to the dealer I am stopping in.

Update, the dealership said they changed the blower motor out and cleaned leaves out of the vents? and they finally put the dash back correctly until they locked all my keys in the truck and had to order a key, its shocking their lack of detail

Why couldn't you unlock it by using the OnStar application or by calling OnStar?

You'd think the dealer would have thought of that...
