I agree 100% David! The results of my visit to the dealer----nothing wrong. Not surprised but I STILL am very irritated by the whine. Funny thing is, my hearing isn't worth a crap anymore so I can just imagine my irritation if it was good!

I write this as my truck is being hauled away on a flatbed for dying in my driveway this morning. I suspect that is "operating as designed" also.

Standard GM reply all is good preforming as designed. They refuse to fix mine. They sent soemone out who did nothing to even try to resolve my complain, never even made contact with me, just printed out a couple TSB's and ran. Some were not even for what I brought it in for. They come up with crazy stories thinking we are all stupid.

Same story every time. So if this is how it's designed and its not up to what you think it should be let people know so those people can make an informed decision on what to buy. People know my loyalty to this brand, so when I tell them I don't want another GM product it will hold value.

The only thing we can do is make sure we tell everyone we know to stay away from this company. They don't care about a quality vehicle anymore. Gave them a change by replacing my last truck that was of poor quality with this one, not again.

I purchased my 2015 Silverado Duramax 2500HD crew cab 4x4 in Feb 2014, first few days I had it I heard what sounded like a triple clunk after i placed it in gear and started moving at approx 3 miles an hour, it suddenly went away as quickly as it began. I assumed it was the Driveshaft(s) not sure which, since I wasn’t in 4wd I didn’t think of paying attention to that one. Since the noise went away as Stated I thought not much about it until my next Dealer Service and I brought it to their attention at that time, I had the Service Advisor ride with me and She heard it at 3mph then it would stop ,It didn’t make the noise all the time, but luckily this time it did, she agreed with me and noted it on the Service Order, later that day I was asked to pick up my truck service was done and I asked about the noise, They stated they couldn’t duplicate it ,I asked to speak with the Service Manager and he just put me off to someone else, which I explained my problem to on deaf ears, I made sure everything was documented on the work orders and my account before I left, Keep in mind I purchased 4 new vehicles from this Dealership over the past years 10 years, I’m not to happy at this point, I left ,Yes, the clunk noise occurred again the next day and randomly , it didn’t do it all the time , I’ve been back to that dealer 2 more times for Service and both times I have brought up my concerns about the Clunk and another Issue that happened when I was towing my Daughters Honda Civic on a full Uhaul Aluminum Trailer , In this event I had the right front Caliper Lock up on me and smoked , This was while i was braking and taping the pedal, Unfortunately the U-haul trailers do not have electric brakes on their trailers but what was odd is only the right caliper locked up and didn’t release , I had to pull over and wait for it to cool down before I could resume my trip ,once I resumed and there was a thumping noise in the right front that gradually went away ,I had to stop for fuel and I checked that caliper and saw the Blue Scorch on the disc. Not much I could do 800 miles away from no where accept fill up and hope that I could fully resume my trip and that it wouldn’t happen again. In any case I got to my destination by babying the truck all the way, I got to the dealer and they checked it, they saw the blue scorch on the disc and offered nothing. I asked them to replace it under warranty check the Caliper; they stated it was all in order.

I made sure all was noted on my account and work order and went on my way.

This is why I am actually writing this topic ,Yesterday 2/21/2015 , We had about 8 inches of snowfall in East Tennessee, I got in my truck had it in 4 wheel high backed out of my driveway and then continued forward down my driveway , Driveway is on a Decline .

I got to the end of the driveway and saw my son was stuck in his car and I offered to help pull him out, he has a 5 series BMW, I have a big Durmax 4x4 2500, that didn’t matter, as I was pulling him in 4 wheel low slowly,He had his car in drive and assisting in his wheels spinning the front drive shaft snapped off right at the Yolk, Yes Folks Snapped! Sheared right off , I put the truck in Park looked underneath and there was the front driveshaft hanging on the ground ,This truck has a little over12,000 miles on it. I’ve never had to use the 4 wheel low before, and To make matters worse or better who knows at ths point, I walked back up to my Garage and got out my 1989 Chevy S10 4x4 Pickup with a 2.8ltr 6 cyl engine and guess what , Pulled the BMW out like nothing, No problems at all, at this point I looked at the Duramax and was disgusted . I called for the Flatbed towing and its currently at the Dealer waiting to hear them blame me on Monday for something.. Another two cents I want to add is Why no Vents in the rear for Heat or AC??I have a fully Loaded every option Crew Cab, I mean is this for Real?? ,I am a Diehard GM Guy and I currently own , a 1984 Chevy C10 Short bed Silverado mint truck,,1995 GMC Yukon 4x4, and a 1989 Chevy S10 4x4,, Past owner of 2003 Silverado , 2005 Avalanche, 1999 Chevrolet Astro New Wife Owned, and 2008 Chevy Corvette, All Purchased new, I’m absolutely Disgusted with this new truck, the driveshaft in the rear looks to be at least 8 or 9 inches across in size and the front driveshaft looks to be 2.5 or maybe 3 inches across, I guess the size doesn’t matter since the front yolk sheared off. Just my 2 cents to any input or experiences on your 2014 or 2015 Durmax 2500 HD I would be Interested in Hearing

I had a 2011 1500. I used to get that clunk every sometimes. About a year after I had it the Ujoint broke moving about 3 mph and bounced the driveshaft around a few times. Warranty fixed it including a new shaft. I never heard that clunk after the drive shaft and U joints were replaced.

I have found that my 2015 makes that whine when NOT in 4 x 4 . .. such that I am constantly checking, did I flip it back to 2?

I also think GM's 4 x 4 sucks because I seem to get stuck an awful lot for no apparent reason . . :(:( Maybe I'm giving it too much credit but when I pull up behind my barn to get some hay and it's only SURFACE mud and I'm sinking and slipping . . .. . well. Really thought it was supposed to be better than this . .how will I ever get a stuck horse trailer out of the mud/snow? I swear the 4 x was better in my 2000 1/2 ton!!!

I have same issues and same reply from dealership

I have been a master Technician for 32 years

and this noise is not normal

I would like to know what part of the country these identical answers from General Motor Dealers is coming from

seems to be a generic answer

Are you a GM Master tech? Do you watch any of the Emerging Issues in GM training? If so, you would have watched this month's version about non defect transfer cases being sent back for warranty with no fault found. They were sent to supplier, installed in there test truck with no issues. The 2015 HD trucks use the same case gas or diesel. It was prior, the diesel case but is now used on both. Has a different chain setup inside it, and between 30-55 mph it produces that whine noise.

The chain is the noise causing piece. Due to its strength and design, it produces more noise. These new trucks have increased interior noise dampening, and a side effect is the ability to hear the chain in the case.

Everyone, it's the chain and sprockets in the case. Should not be making this noise, but they say it should because they have a whole bunch of them that do it so it's operating as designed. Yea right, at least one of us here has been a mechanical design engineer for 26 years and knows silent drive chain drives are not supposed to sound like that. I am sure they have tested the bad er good parts and they know they will make it just past warranty, when it's our problem to fix them. Don't worry, GM will someday stand behind their word and actually give us what we all spent our hard earned money on. By the way, did anyone else get concerned when they announced the power train going from 100k to 60k in 2016, I bet the parts are what are in our trucks.

Not very impressed with mine either, sounds like I bought an old diesel when in 4x4, that is the best I can describe the sound. Quieter cab? What except the floor? this is why I can hear the gears? And if I turn up the radio I paid how many thousands for I hear a rattle in the door lol. Yup diehard GM guy here as well and regretting it more and more everyday. Was very close to switching manufactures with this truck, almost guaranteed the next will be.

And yes I was a GM master tech so I can back up what my fingers are typing.
