BFG AT KO2

Recommended Posts

I picked up some 285/70-17's over the weekend. I have the Bilstein 5100 adjustables set on the highest setting with weather tech mudflaps and no rubbing so far even in reverse at full lock. I'm very happy with the tires and love the ride! I can definitely feel the extra weight of the tires but it does not bother me.

I'll have to take better pictures!

That's the same size as a 285/65r18. How much room do you have around the tire at full lock, especially next to the swaybar? I'm wanting to run the 305/65r18 KO2a on stockers, but have only found one truck like that, and he had KOs, not KO2s.

Visually, how do you like the width of the 285? Is it enough to make it look oversized over stock?

I think the 285s look great on stock wheels, definitely noticeably wider than stock. I got mine on today, sorry for the poor pic.

Since they come with the crappiest street tire possible (GY SRAs...really?), it doesn't take much for an improvement.

What's your real world tread width on them...about 9" or so? Looking at the rear of the tire, there seems to be an inch or more of room when going straight. Swaybar clearance measurement at full lock?

I have clearance around all of the wheel well liner and weathertech mudflaps at full lock as well.

As for how I like the width visually of the 285 I love it over the stock tires and could not be happier!!! I actually really did not like my stock 17" wheels but with these tires on them I love em! To me I think it looks perfect on the stock 17" wheel with the belstein leveling set at the highest setting.

On the 17" stock wheel the 285/70-17 width is aboot 9-7/16" on a measuring tape.

That being said for me personally I will be buying 275/70-17 next time as I have noticed that the extra weight and width of the 285's has decreased my "performance" more than I would have liked. For me a 305 will not happen unless I go crazy and do engine performance mods. I have barley driven any highway miles on them yet, maybe 200 miles but a lot of around town driving. The mpg's is lower then I expected for sure but this is subjective to each person.

Thanks for the info. That will help a lot of folks on here that are running stockers and want a beefier tire. Looks like your swaybar was rubbed by something....it was shiny!

These trucks have tons of power over previous generations. At 340hp, that's more than enough to move a 12x33 tire and the 4-way disc brakes will stop it easily--just seems sluggish compared to the GY donuts that were on it stock. I get a new truck every 8 years or so and am amazed at the hp and MPG increase over the last class of trucks. And the transmissions are matched better too.

My truck is leveled with 31x9 on it...one size over stock. With 14K miles on it, my average is 15.5mpg. When I upsize to 285 or 305, I expect that to drop to 13 or so.

Your very welcome! The sawbar is shiny there from my hand rubbing the dirt off it when I installed the belsteins ;) I think 305's would look killer on here but would most likely need more than a 2" level. The photo of the sway bar has the tire at full lock and there is more than a few inches of clearence from the sway bar, but I'm pretty sure a 305 would rub the wheel well liners or even the fenders with out a kid or body lift. I definitely want to get calibrate the truck for the tires and see if there is much of a difference. Edited by Alexantics

Remember that your mileage is off just a bit with oversized tires if not reprogrammed for the change. My truck said it averaged 18.5 (30/70 city/hwy) on my 40mi trip home from the tire shop.

Nice truck! Love the reg cab.

Any issues those are one of the two I was looking at. Either 275/65/20s or the 285/65/20s id like to go with the 285s being they would be a little wider but not as wide as the 33-12.5s. What are your thoughts about fitting since you have the 275/65/20s? Will there be enough room? Think the 275s are 34.1 and 10.5 wide and the 285s are 34.5 and 11.2 wide.

I had to trim a tiny bit off my gator back mudflaps. There was a bit of rubbing at full lock. And I did zip tie that carpet crap back. Gained another inch there. I was gonna go with the 285/60-20 in a duratrac but they were much more expensive than the ko2's.

Have any pics from the side?

I was just looking at tire rack and it seems the 275/60 is 15lbs more than the stock LS2s, and the 275/65 is 17lbs more (2lbs more than 275/60). I would have expected it to weigh more than that. I wonder if there is a bigger MPG hit going 275/65 vs 275/60. If anything, the bigger diameter would probably be the culprit of worse MPG.
