2014 / 2015 Key Fob disassembly and board swap

Recommended Posts

This is funny because I bought a silicone skin to protect my chrome LTZ fob and now it looks like the bottom pic :)

At least these newer ones look a whole lot better than previous model key fobs. My wife has a '12 Acadia and going from her key fob to mine makes me feel like I am driving a luxury car lol.

Nice write-up.

You should research programming key FOB. I programmed them for my Trailblazer, my daughter's Nissan, and a couple other cars.

You generally don't HAVE to use dealer to program those things. I haven't looked into it on this truck, but would think it isn't any different.

Sidebar: I'll trade ya my SLE headlights for the LED's out of your SLT :)

I'm still not understanding myself why GM hasn't gone keyless yet. These fobs are outdated. Dodge and Ford have had way better fobs than this crap for fove years now. Time to move to the new tech GM.

Not on the newer GMC's. I believe we can program keys bit not the RKE fob.

I have a 2015 Silverado 1500, my wife has a 2014 GMC Terrain. I was wondering if there was a way to change my key & fob to a flip out fob like her's? I like minimal, a key & fob are too much for my day to day.

I just took the chrome edging/strips off one of my SLT remotes and put in on my dads basic remote. 10 second job, they snapped right on.

How did you get the chrome edging off the remote? Please explain in detail, I’m having the hardest time.

Use a spark plug feeler gauge, just experiment until you find one stiff enough to fit and release the tabs. You may have to replace the fob case itself, because the chrome side piece tabs do break. I picked one up on Amazon for around 10 bucks, does not have the Chevy bow tie on it, but did come with the chrome side pieces.
