508gm1
Hello, I am looking for the best (least expensive way) to turn off the afm feature on my 2011 sierra. This is all I am looking to do; nothing more. I do not want to use the range device. Any suggestions would be great. Cheers, Brendan

Check out blackbearperformance.com, send them your pcm and have them tune it .... I think its 300 not sure
RyanbabZ71
Why are you against the range device? If AFM delete is all your looking for this is the way to go. Otherwise go for a full time with Blackbear Ryan
TooTall1
#1 choice would be the Range device if all you want to do is turn off AFM. My next choice would be the Diablo Intune. This would give you the option of converting the truck back to stock if you needed service.

Cheers, Brendan The cheapest way to do this is to purchase a second hand Diablosport Intune from E-Bay. As long as the device is unmarried from the previous vehicle(s) you will be all set. I purchased mine used on one previous vehicle, but in like new condition for $275.
Cowpie
I side with the Range Module as the cheapest, easiest way to turn of the AFM. It is just plug and play. If one goes into the dealer, just unplug it before going in the shop. Plug it back in before starting the vehicle after you pick it back up. All of about 5 seconds for each action. Kinda hard to beat that with a tuner. But this is only valid for someone who is ONLY wanting to disable the AFM. The Range is selling, brand new, on the Autoanything site for $159, after the online 20% discount, and free shipping. Doesn't get much better than that. It isn't tied to the vehicle like a tuner either.
revmanii
I'm in the same boat. Looking to turn off the AFM without having my battery go dead if I forget to pull my Range module. It works great, but if you forget to pull it and the truck sits for more than a day or two, your battery will be dead. I've had to put the battery charger on it too many times and I'm looking for an alternative. I really don't need more performance as it really is pretty good for a truck. I have a 392 SRT Challenger and have almost as much fun driving the truck. And I have no desire to pay the $.30 + a gallon more they charge around here for premium with my 90 mile a day commute, I already do that with the Challenger after market tune. So I guess I'm looking for an 87 octane tune that disables the AFM and gives me ?? Guess I should check with the vendors. I know I've heard Black Bear here and Diablo. Are there other vendors that offer tunes for us we can contact too?
BigBlueLB756
My Range stays plugged in except around OnStar time of the month and I've never had low battery problems, but that's just me.
04GMCYukon
You just need a friend with EFILive or HPTuners and $100 to license your PCM with their handheld. Pull down your calibration, make the change, write the calibration back in. AFM is a YES/NO question inside either software.
KARNUT
I turned mine off with the hyperteh programmer, but you can also program it to come in at different speeds.
bagger97
So, I just ordered a Diablo Intune from Autoanything. Turning off AFM and setting the 87 octane tune. Had something similar on my Harley. Hope it's just as easy to use.

gilleydog
my range on my 2014 5.3 threw codes every 2 months even after there (range) updates, dealer had a hard time getting them gone so mine sets in a drawer
revmanii
So, I just ordered a Diablo Intune from Autoanything. Turning off AFM and setting the 87 octane tune. Had something similar on my Harley. Hope it's just as easy to use. That's exactly what I just did. Also bumped up the shift firmness a notch. Love not having to worry whether I left the Range plugged in and the tranny seems to shift much better. My 2014 5.3 has never thrown any codes with the Range. YMMV
BlackZ71Silverado
You just need a friend with EFILive or HPTuners and $100 to license your PCM with their handheld. Pull down your calibration, make the change, write the calibration back in. AFM is a YES/NO question inside either software. Did you not read the OP? He was asking for the easiest way to disable the AFM not using that Range gadget. A handheld tuner would fit the bill for sure, not searching for someone who paid a couple thousand dollars for tuning software and hope they will only charge you $100 to disable the AFM......then if it needs to be reset to factory, trying to get in touch with them yet again and hope they will reset the truck for you. That would be the most difficult way to go about doing what he needs done. A handheld gives him freedom to do as he pleases without counting on someone else.
