Best year of the Duramax from 2001-2010/11?

All of the Duramax engines have had defects and each model has been replaced in only a few years of production or less by a new model that fixed some problems and introduced new ones. The ones I would avoid are the LMM and the LB7. If you want a truck that you can drive down in Mexico then the LLY 2004.5 to 2006 will be the best choice, or least bad choice. With the LML the 2012 fixed some problems with the 2011 trucks. On a pre 2008 truck I would want to buy one that the seller has replaced the fuel injectors so I could avoid a $4000 repair bill down the road - or at least for as long as possible.

Even with the worst trucks there will be many people who hav put high models on theirs with no problems. If out of a 1000 owners there are 900 that experience expensive problems there will still be 100 that thing that their truck and their decision to buy it was a good one.

There is also the aspect of tuners. The tuners put more stress on the engine and on the transmission and I would not want to buy a truck where some yahoo used a tuner as I would be footing the repair bills when parts fail earlier than they would otherwise do without the added stress.

Boys, I've only owned diesels in Japan, but since I want to get a bigger trailer, maybe 5th wheeler, I'm looking at used Duramax now. Found an '06 LLY engine, which I have no idea what that means, with 177,000 miles. Old boy's asking $23,500 for it. It's 4x4 crew cab, looks very clean in pics. It's really nice. He said new hubs a year ago - wha' in the world are these hub thingamajigs? Something to do with 4x4? I haven't seen it in person yet, might try to next week when I get time...

Hubs probably means the hub bearings as these trucks were noted to go through hub bearings. Couldn't tell you much more than that as far as pricing fairness. As far as the truck, take it for a test drive, as in drive it like you already own it and put it through it's paces. That way you will see if there are any problems in power, brakes, leaks, etc. Well you'll get a better idea anyway.

I have have nothing but problems with my 2011 2500 HD Duramax. I average about 10,000 km's before it is in with another issue. There are five Special Coverage Adjustment on it so far but the problems are not solvable. I get the same problems over and over. I was hoping this was going to a great truck but it has been an expensive lemon from the start.
