You really need to know the weight of your boat and trailer, and tongue weight. Not every trailer and boat combination works out well and you could have problems with excessive tongue weight.

It's kind of hard to say what will or won't work if you don't know what you're dealing with.

Nice truck, that's a new color right? Don't remember seeing it last fall when I got my Sierra. I do like my 4.3 but, I wish I had spent the extra $$ for the 5.3.

The color is cobalt blue its a 2014 color. And I have great news. The truck takes the weight without sinking at all! I guess my older silverado has different suspension? Anyhow I had to know so I attached the trailer. No sweat!

I also tow a boat with my Sierra 1500.

Keep in mind that the hitch may not be rated for a boat that heavy. I was told GM calculates using a load leveler type hitch, witch most boats do not use.

The sticker on my hitch said 5500 lbs. maximum even though my truck is rated for 8500 lbs. I was overloading my hitch and didn't realize it, thankfully the sticker was still on it.

Check U-tube for GM hitch failures....

If the boat is properly balanced on the trailer the tongue weight should be about 10% of the total weight. Since its a new setup I would recommend checking the tongue weight and make sure it is balanced correctly. An improperly setup trailer can cause some weird behavior when towing. If you have cat scales close by you could always go check the tongue weight there or do it in your own driveway with a regular bathroom scale.

There should be a weight limit for weight distributing and without weight distributing hitch.

The hitches on the '14 1500's are rated for 12,000 lb trailer and 1200 tongue weight carrying. They're much better than the hitches they used to put on the older trucks (including many 3/4 tons). They don't give separate ratings for WD. It probably would have been pointless as they would far exceed the ratings of the trucks to which they're attached.
