Oil Leak after First Service

Recommended Posts

New 2014 SLE double cab.

Went in Friday for the first oil and filter change under warranty. (Plus trans. & peak-in software upgrade).

Today I notice oil under the truck. The drain plug was loose and dripping oil.

This is the first time (ever in 65 years) that someone other than me has serviced my vehicle. IT WILL BE THE LAST!

Anybody had their drain plug out? Is there a separate washer under the plug or is it integral with the plug. I've stopped the drip, but wondered if they left the washer out or if it was just loose.

sam :-)

Well if you do the routine maintenance yourself in that first 2 year/24,000 miles comprehensive warranty then that will void the warranty, I'm thinking the full warranty. So either go to a different dealer or make them have someone else do it. They would be able to look on the computer and see if you brought it in for the routine maintenance like you should.

I'm like you and rather do the stuff myself if I'm capable and have the right tools, but if they offer to do the maintenance the first 24,000 miles then they can have at it.

I haven't looked at the drain plug of my new truck, but I'm sure it's like my 98 where the washer and o-ring are all part of the plug, so all 1 part.

Absolutely untrue. If the OP or anyone else does maintenance the first 2/24 all they loose out on is the free maintenance.

It is built into the plug. Looks like this one:

Ok my mistake, I thought I read somewhere about it would void the warranty.

I certainly won't void the warranty if you use the proper weight oil (Dexos rating) and filter. I'd save the receipts from the purchase to prove it was done.

I use a dealer that has a great reputation for service for my free oil changes and tire rotations. It's 8 1/2 quarts so it's not cheap, and rotating tires at home is a bit of a chore.

Ya someone said it won't void the warranty, which I figured it would since if you don't maintain like you should it could cause problems. Voiding it was just something I read, but I figure it's free so it wouldn't matter to me since I trust the dealership in my town where I got the truck from.

Someone posted somewhere on here where you can get the 5 1/4 quart jug at Walmart for $20 and then just get 3 more quarts. Rotating tires used to be a chore, but now I have 4 jackstands, breaker bar, electric impact wrench and a torque wrench. So having the right tools cuts the time in half or more. Hell now it seems to take more time to get it up on all 4 jackstands than it does to actually rotate the tires. Of course I wish I had a pneumatic impact, but a 20 volt impact will do.
