Chased a 2008 mustang gt with my patrol car.

What is the RPM at that speed? What gear is it in? Anytime I have hit the speed limiter it is obvious it is a limiter. Both my GTPs would pull strongly to 127, then would feel like it was turning off for less than a second, and the speed dropped to 126. I had my foot to the floor as well. My 2000 had a smaller pulley, Thrasher CAI and SLP LoudMouth cat back and it pulled harder than the 98 stock one did. The way it pulled to 126 and kept going up that one more mile per hour had me hoping for a second or so that maybe it would not be limited. One thing I did notice was that if I had the DIC set to metric, speed limiter hit at 199kmph. This was back when reprogramming the ECM meant mailing your ECM to someone so they could modify it, then mail it back. It meant you could be without the car for 2 or 3 weeks, especially if you were Canadian.

Well i had it floored all the way for 3-5 miles at 5-6,000 rpms so im assuming it was 3rd and if it was why wouldnt i get 4th

Police cars generally don't have to out run the vehicle being chased, they need only out drive him. I think that most that run are not in full control of their mind. Rarely having any real experience dealing with the weight and g-forces that Grand Theft Auto just cannot simulate while they were doing their training. Much like the people that go online bragging how well they can play a guitar now that they have Guitar Hero. Now that I think of it, when I was a kid, it was paint by numbers that made us quality artists in our own mind.

You're right. Most that evade are scared, crazy, homicidal, or all of the above which more often than not makes it impossible to "out drive" them. they drive with reckless abandon, blowing intersections, traveling the wrong way on a one way, etc. Anything and everything to escape. Police can't engage in that same behavior, so we are very often out driven so to speak. The main thing is keeping up long enough to stage spike strips and get more cars in the area. I can't tell you how many pursuits end because the bad guy simply ghosts us.

Here ya go, folks.

FYI the last year they tested it, in 2011, the Crown Vic had a top speed of 129 MPH and a 0-60 time of 9.6 seconds. Very slow. Very pathetic. Those times and top speed (governed) are equivlent to the 1992 Crown Vic Police Interceptor with *gasp* 210 HP. VERY similar numbers and top speed. I have owned 3 retired P71 Crown Vic Interceptors. a 1995, a 1996, and a 1998 (First year of the body style that it ended up retiring with back in 2012) I have also owned a 1993 Caprice 9C1 5.7L (Police Package) basic 350 engine (1994-1996 saw the 260HP LT1 derived 5.7L) Both the Chevy and Fords were excellent cars, but the Chevys were always faster and seemed to take a beating better. But regardless, the Crown Vic was outdated when it came to performance by the time 1998 came around. While a new body style and it being the only RWD Sedan police package vehicle as well as the good room and comfort it offered kept it alive, it was still outdated.

Though it was slow we kept up with cars much quicker on paper. Keeping a car in sight and outrunning them is two different things. They were fast enough to keep up with most cars. We have run our crown vics from 0 60 and we consistently get 8 seconds flat. Which is enough. btw the sheriff wants some senior guys to test the caprice and decide to keep the charger or take the caprice. It will be interesting to compare the two both equipped with v8's to see which is better.

I personally think the crown vic will be on the road much longer than the new ford police cars. The crown victoria/grand marquis are very nice handling and riding vehicles.

They would have to put them back into production then.

I know i cant believe ford discontinued them!

I'm not surprised really. The Vic's are nothing but tough. And they stayed relevant over the years due to their space. Impalas, Chargers, etc have no room and no storage. The Tahoe will be the new king for 2 reasons. Ample room / storage for any division and most equipment swaps over from the Vic to the Hoe with minimal change so it's a huge cost savings.

Doesn't GM sell a Chev cop car now in the states? We don't get it in Canada, but it was supposed to be the new king of pursuit cars as well as new king of cruisers.

A lot of LE Agency's have rules against purchasing cars made in/from another country. The Caprice is a Holden with Chevy badges.

How do they feel about Canada and Mexico? Aren't some vehicles for Chevrolet only made in Canada or Mexico?

The Explorer (Utility vehicle as they call it but it is still an explorer) seems to be the vehicle of choice out here, a few of the Tauruses as well. The Chargers are used and have been used by various agencies, but the county I live in was using chargers to replace the aging Vics, and now they have switched over to the Exploders. Good all around vehicles for them and they seem to be quite happy with them. A few of the K9 officers have Tahoes and one Exploder. Colorado State Patrol mainly runs the Chagers, but they are trying out both the Caprice and the Taurus as well. Only one agency I know here has gone exclusevly with the Caprice to replace the Vics, and that is Aurora PD.
