cloth interior odor - 'aged' smell

Recommended Posts

2002 Silverado extended cab. Around the 8-10 year mark, maybe (it's been a while...), it seems that the cloth seats began to give off an odor, not a wet/moldy/mildewy-type of smell, but something more like an "old cloth" type of smell. Not sure how else to describe, but wondering if anyone else has noticed a similar type of non-water damage kind of smell in their cab? Definitely the cloth of the seats giving this off - it seems to get on your clothes/skin a bit and stays with you for a while. Certain that it's not the carpeting.

Interestingly, I noticed that the fabric on the new office chairs at work are giving off the EXACT same odor. Not quite getting transferred onto the clothing the same way the truck's seats do, though.

Have Febreeze'd it and hit the seats lightly with some carpet cleaner, but it returns fairly quickly. Wondering if there's something else I should do to get rid of this longer, or permanently?

Remove the seats and go full retard on them with a wet vac. And do the carpets while you're at it, just imagine how much crud is hidden down there after all those years.

Febreeze is like cologne, it doesn't make a difference when you haven't showered in ages! :)

i would also suggest a shampoo, or at least a spray on vacuum out cloth shampoo like Meguiars carpet and upholstery cleaner http://www.oldetownautospa.ca/collections/meguiars-professional-detailer-line-canada/products/meguiars-detailer-carpet-and-upholstery-cleaner-19-oz?variant=798889211

id also follow up with something like auto vaccine or fogit
